Playing trumpet with braces is A LOT different than playing woodwind ones with them. I don't know from experience with braces, but i play the tpt, and know that it may be difficult. Technically, you are not supposed to press the mouthpiece against your lips, there is not supposed to be any pressure on them, but beginner and developing players such as myself tend to do so. If she is a beginner, and presses too hard like most of them, braces will be painful. However, they may teach her not to use pressure and rely more on air to carry her through, which would be technically proper, a definite advantage. Tell her it may get rough but no to give up...they may end up a blessing. I know a kid who really turned heads playing his tpt, even with braces on, so it is possible. Good Luck!

I started the trumpet in 5th grade and got braces in 6th grade. I had braces for 3 years and it did not affect my trumpet playing. I remember using wax over the braces while I was playing to ease the pressure on my lips the brackets put on them while I was pressing the mouthpiece down.
Good Luck!

it is painful and uncomfortable at first, but by the time you get the braces off, playing without them feels awkward
