Try not to panic, though I know this is scary. I've had sz.s too.

Many people have frequent seizures and it is quite possible that seeing a neurologist will make all the difference for you. Epilepsy is a SYMPTOM of some other problem, and that problem may or may not be discovered. It usually is not due to a tumor. Often the epilepsy itself can be very well controlled. And that's great news. Simply taking some daily meds can put you back on track again so you can complete your schooling. Put the word "disability" out of your mind for now. It's unfounded so far.

You will undergo a series of tests (MRI, CT, EEG) to try and target the cause.

Tell your doc about your bulimia and the insomnia. Generally bulimia and insomnia don't CAUSE epilepsy, but can make the condition worse. Bulimia creates an electrolyte imbalance in your body and for reasons unknown, lack of sleep is a stressor on the body that can bring on seizures for many people.

You'll likely need treatment for both conditions, for your peace of mind and general health, not just seizure prevention.

Sorry this is so long and I hope all works out well. Just see your doc.

3 attacks in 4 months is reason for concern!
I don't see why this should affect your nursing class unless you will have to miss time for treatments and examinations. You can be considered disabled if your seizures are not being controlled and if they interfere in your life. It may only be a temporary disability. You need to follow your Doctors advice and be seen by the neurologist. It could be a very treatable condition if dealt with early and depending on the cause. Don't worry too much yet. All is not lost. There is still hope!

Your eating disorder could be a factor of concern. If you aren't getting the nutrition your body needs all of your systems suffer - brain included!

Get to the neurologist and do whatever he tells you. Ask a lot of questions and read, read, read!
Good luck and my prayers are with you!

Being a nursing student, you should know that the brain is very delicate, and bulemia could be a factor in having seizures. If you have only had three attacks in four months, that's not too bad....some people have a hundred seizures or so a day. A neurologist should order a CT, CRI, and an EEG to determine if there is anything going on in your brain (such as a tumor, malformation, bleed, etc.) that is causing the seizures. You should also currently be on anti-seizure medications. In addition to seeing the neurologist, I recommend visiting a therapist to address your insomnia and bulemia. Best wishes to you.

Do not worry neurologist's are very helpful and if you they will put you on different medications until this disorder If it is a disorder is under control. I have known someone that had this disorder, cat scans, MRI's are two tests that they will use to how your seizures are. nightly during sleep or during day. Bulimic I would not be throwing up any food you eat because all that will do is throw the meds out of your system and you will not get them under control. Insomnia I do not know. but trust me this disorder can be controlled by melds. If you have a disorder one thing I would recommend is definitely go to your states Rehabilitation Commission for ex MRC if you are in Mass the original question is also a good one to ask the neurologist or your Rehabilitation Commission. These links can be found on you're states home government page.

Hey,I have a different neurological disorder but have been around the subject in general for over 9 years now. As far as your school goes you will need to read their policy handbook about reasons for "dismissal". If you go to a neurologist and he or she can find what is triggering your siezures and get them under control possibly with simple perscription medications, then it " shouldn't " be possible for your school to discriminate against you. You might seek a free legal consultation with a local law firm on the subject just in case.I also suffer with insomnia and a simple perscription medication dose every night at bed time fixed it for now. I know nothing on bulimia but the neuroligist should be able to rule it in or out as a possible cause of your seizures. What you are experiencing is terrifying, please remember you are not alone, others are out there in the same position and some have through therapy been given back most of their life. Good Luck

Ignoring the problem won't make it go away. Those seizures do irreprable brain damage, you HAVE to take care of them or you won't have any brain left to take nursing! Once the disorder is taken care of, you should have no problem getting back into nursing, I have friends with epilepsy that are nurses.
GO SEE THE NEUROLOGIST. And while you're at it, talk to a counsilor about the bulemia.

See the neurologist, and don't worry until you know what you're worrying about. Be sure to be honest with the doctor about what is going on in your life - the bulimia and insomnia. S/he will be able to tell you if they're related to what you're experiencing, and also whether your seizures may be controlled with medicine. Good luck!

Please see the webpages for more details on Epilepsy, Petit mal seizure, Generalized tonic-clonic seizure (Grand mal), EEG, Cranial CT scan, and Head MRI scan. Please consult a neurologist. You have to undergo Electro Encephalo Gram, head Computed Tomography scan or a head MRI to rule out specific causes of seizures.
