Sprinkling food-grade diatomaceous earth, Comet® or Tide® laundry powder/soap or planting mint and lavender or lightly spraying Safe Solutions, Inc. Enzyme Cleaner with Peppermint around the building or dog runs are a delightful deterrents/repellants.
Caulk all wall penetrations and mortar masonry cracks. Wall penetrations include utility lines, air conditioning, refrigerant pipes, phone lines, etc.
Tighten all door and window frames. Sprinkle food-grade DE, talcum powder, baking soda, Comet® and/ or medicated body powders where the ants are entering.
Repair water leaks. (Remember, carpenter ants love to nest in insulation, especially if it is damp.)
Trim all shrubbery and branches away from house. Remove mulch.
Remove any firewood that is stacked close to buildings; boards, stones, etc. that encourage nesting; screen openings in hollow pillars, columns, and ventilators.
Control ant-tended aphids and mealy bugs with Safe Solutions, Inc. Enzyme Cleaner with (or without) Peppermint diluted ¼ oz. per gallon.
P.S. Sprinkling the powder (tip 1) works great and is cheap, ants will NOT cross these powder lines!

One easy solution is to smush some ants and leave there. Gross, huh? But they are little, and you can leave them near wherever it is that the ants are coming from. The ants will avoid them.
After several ant invasions in one room, I did this, and I have not had any ants for months.

i would try using ant and roach spray. you may not have roaches but it's a little stronger than the ant spray alone! i have had problems with ants and it's hard to get rid of them for good. if the spray does not work I'd try an exterminator!

they are afraid of anteaters but that probably isn't a viable option for your situation. Get yourself some boric acid. you can get it at any Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart.

The rain! boom boom boom.
Actually, I heard they hate dryer sheets. I used to get them in my bathroom so I put dryer sheets in the corners and now they are gone! Don't know why it works...
