Obviously I'll cook it first, but still is it ok to eat?

The packet says eat on day of purchase if putting in fridge but this is being overly safe as it says you must eat it within a month if deep freezing it, when in reality you can freeze things for much longer and still eat it after.

In the refrigerator it can accumulate bacteria. In the freezer it does not. Fish and chicken you need to be very careful with, they can spoil and get bacteria easily. Throw the fish out. You should defrost and eat as soon as possible, 1-2 days max.

I'm sure it won't have any side effects on you except maybe it could be discolored and have a funny odor to it, but that could be part of the nutrition value you get from eating tuna. The mercury in the tuna will help in case you start to feel sick, but I myself personally don't let anything sit longer than a week in the fridge.

No way.... don't do it!!

If you are going to do it (at your own risk), cook for hours and hours in a stew with tomatoes, loads of herbs and spices to cover up the bad rotting taste!! For the amount of gas/electric used, trouble doing it, not being able to sleep at night, possibly a dicky stomache in the morning, go out and buy fresher fish, or, if on a budget, the reduced ones that can be eaten today, or in a month (or longer, in your case!!) if frozen on day of purchase.

I have just got over food poisoning, believe me it's not fun. I ran to the loo for 6 days, I passed florescent green poo, any food was converted to pond slime in 2 hours. after 2/3 days my bum hole felt as though I had sat on a wasps nest. and the pain, I thought I was having another baby.

So I'd give it a miss. unless you'd like to try the above.

Is it safe to put your head into the jaws of a hungry lion?
Seriously though, open the packet and have a good sniff and look at it, if it smells a bit iffy, then NO don't touch, if it looks a funny colour then NO, if it is slimy at all then NO. Good luck and before you try then make sure you know where your nearest causalty department is.

Probably the worst food that you can eat if it is questionable is any kind of fish.

I feed my cats tuna, and I would not feed them any tuna that is over 4 days old. The choice is yours, but I would trash it. Tune is not the most expensive food out there.

2-3 days after purchase maybe. 5 days would be pushing it. 10 days is food poisoning. Don't eat it.

Yes. People are overly freaked out about food sanitation these days. Same goes for expired milk. Just do it.
