I'm not sure I understand your fractions, but both of these substances depress your central nervous system. Anxiety is an overactivity of the CNS and PNS, and the benzodiazepines (Valium and Xanax) act to calm this. So too does alcohol. The difference, though, is that alcohol can impair the cortex (outer brain layer, good for memory, knowing who you are, making decisions), the midbrain (emotional centers of the brain), and the brain stem (breathing, hearth beat). When used together, they create what is called a synergystic effect. This means that it is not simply the effect of the Xanax plus the alcohol, but is a combination of the two such that it is Xanax TIMES the alcohol. As such, I would strongly recommend eliminating the alcohol use while concurrently using Xanax. The results of long term usage of this sort can include cognitive impairments which are permanent and also liver, stomach, and kidney disease.

You cut back too fast, to be honest...if you are taking a total of 2 mg a day, and then stop down to 1 a day....you are weening off too fast. Xanax, a miracle drug,..also is one of the worst to get off of. It can cause severe seizures...if taken off too quickly. So, here is what I think...if you are taking 2 ...1/2 pills a day, then you are actually taking 1mg a day...so since you have already cut back so much...you might try taking 1/2, + 1/4, at night, and the same in the morning for a while..then,...after a couple of weeks, drop the 1/4 in the morning, to just a 1/2.....then after a coupld of more weeks, drop the 1/4 at night...then...gradually...go again, to 1/4 at night,...1/2 in the morning,...then 1/4 in the morning ....try to do it like every two weeks till you get down to taking 1/16...morning and same at night...then...you can slowly drop the one in the morning,...go to one at night and slowly drop them. all together..it is a very slow process....but that is how I did it with no side effects, and no seizures.

You're going through withdrawal from xanax. I'd stop drinking the beer - It'll just make you feel worse. Try to eat something, drink plenty of water, and rest - if you can. You'll get through it, but it takes awhile - and it's easier and safer to do without beer.

Alcohol and pills are a big-time dangerous mix.
I am glad that you are still alive.
As we age, we lose our tolerance for alcohol; we are more and more affected by less and less alcohol.
Please go to a doctor.
