Save your money. Put a stock air filter in.
Think about what mechanism would be at work to improve my fuel consumption?
Let's think about airflow. With the stock filter, you have excess air to the combustion process, so this wouldn't be a limiting factor. On the otherhand if your filter is blocked, air could become a limiting factor.
Use your cruise control as much as possible. This will keep you from wasting engergy accelerating.
Keep your tires properly inflated. You'll find the pressure requirements inside the driver's door, either on the edge of the door, or on the pillar.
Change your engine oil on a regular basis. Depending on how and where you drive, somewhere between 3000 and 7500 miles. If you drive a lot of city driving, or in dusty areas, closer to 3000, if you get in your car and drive 100miles each way to work on a highway, every 7500 is probably fine.
The biggest thing that effects your fuel consumption is your driving behavior. Then next is to make sure the car is in good working order.
Contrary to popular conspiracy theory, automakers do not conspire with energy companies to limit the efficiency of our cars. We FIGHT for every drop we use.
If there were any retrofits we could do, we'd have already done them.

A K&N filter will increase power slightly, but probably not help fuel mileage. Generally, anything that improves engine power has a negative affect on fuel mileage. This is because when you modify an engine, it pumps more air and therefore more fuel. The best way to improve fuel mileage is driving the speed limit, no "jack-rabbit" starts from stops, keep the engine tuned up according to the manufacturers' maintainence schedule. Also keep your tires properly inflated (check at least once a month).

a K&N filter system will increase airflow. Horsepower and the like by like 2%. To keep your fuel economy up- change the oil, use longer lasting synthic for the best type. keep your tires inflated at the right (proper) level. Replace your sparkplugs if you want.
What burns up the fuel is resistance. If it is harder to turn the engine you'll need more fuel to turn it. So drive down hill alot!
