drape it over a long dowel rod or piece of bamboo so you do not have to put holes in it.

There are a LOT of ways to display a quilt. If the quilt is not yet finished, have a hanging sleeve attached to the back. This allows you to slip a curtain rod or dowel through it, evenly distributing the weight of the quilt. If the quilt is already complete, try using quilt clips like those in the link below. You can find them at quilt shops, although the best picture I could find online was for an eBay auction. Make sure the size you choose is appropriate for the size of your quilt, and use enough to evenly support the quilt. Rather than putting holes in your wall, try using Command Strips (see the second and third link).

Hang it on a curtain rod and use the curtain rings to attach the quilt. This will save the beauty of your quilt.

you can sew plastic rings to the back to hang it by nail, or stitch a muslin casing along the top and slip an curtain rod thru it. or look online for a quilt hanger, usually wooden clamp device that attaches to the wall.

heavy duty adhesive velcro. one side on wall the other on quilt. no sewing required so as to not damage quilt. depending on size of quilt you may need quite alot for it to hang proper and not eventually come off ( quite exhasperting as one has to constantly rehang so make sure you put enough velcro on) won't harm the wall or the quilt. and best part, easy to do and cost effective. velcro can be found in any hardware and or sewing dept.
