According to the 'so called' gospel of Judas, Jesus actually laughed, and lead a comparatively normal life! Why is this less belivable than a new testament 'picked out' by a Roman Emporer who declared himself as unifield religious leader of the world, and banned all other religions!!

Religious people don't have a sense of humour,if they had they would be able to see the irony of their faith.

Hmmm I never got the impression from the "accepted New Testament" that Jesus never laughed. In fact, how could anyone imagine never laughing when you had to hang out with the 12 that He hung out with. I doubt that those who wrote the gospel of Judas even knew , first hand, what Jesus did or didn't do. Anyone can write a book about Jesus and say whatever they want. The New Testament Gospel writers were very close to the scene and either saw firsthand or got it from someone who was with Jesus. Everything about Him was not written down, that's where the Holy Spirit comes in!

Jesus didn't do a lot of weeping in the Bible. There is one instance John 11:35. The Bible also says that Jesus said and did many things that are not included in the Bible.

The "Gospel of Judas" is a gnostic text and is just one of many. The gnostics claimed to have knowledge that was unavaible to the others. Gnosticism was declared a heresy by the Church because it believed that our spirituality was all that was important, not our bodies or the material world. This contradicts what God has revealed to us, not only in his creating men in his image, but also in what the next world. Afterall, Jesus ascended bodily into heaven. This is an indication that God considers our bodies to be important.

I am pretty sure that God has a great sense of humor, by the way, and I have no doubt that Jesus laughed since he was fully human.

I am sure that Jesus laughed. The Gospel writers were either too po-faced and awestruck to think of mentioning it or it was edited out at an early date.

Think of how the shortest verse in the Bible would raise questions if it said "And Jesus laughed." What kind of laugh would it have been? No doubt theologians would wrangle over that one for aeons! But there are no two ways about "And Jesus wept." No arguments necessary.

The 'Gospel of Judas', by the way, is one of the manuscripts found in caves in the 70's. It is said to argue that Judas was not a traitor but, in fact, was Jesus' best friend and therefore the only man able to perform the sacrifice of turning Him in to the Sanhedrim as was required to fulfil the prophesy.

We do not really know if he laughed, or how much, or how much he smiled. The bible says that if everything he did were written down the world could not contain the books. John 21:25.

Hebrews 12:2 b For the *joy* that was set before him he endured a cross/torture stake, despising shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God..

Matthew 25:23 Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things. I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the *joy* of your master.

I think Jesus was more concerned with accomplishing his Father's will, so he could receive the joy; John 4:34. My food is for me to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Jesus was so compassionate that he would actually take on the grief of others. Would we expect anything else from the Saviour? Coming to earth and becoming human was a serious commission from God The FATHER, to save many in the world. He also imitated The FATHER perfectly and we can read at 1Tim. 1:11 about the Happy God. Jesus also taught in the Sermon on the Mount, 9 Happinesses. He was not unhappy, he was serious. Oh, if we needed to know, it would have been written in the Bible.

you're right. jesus was a little melodramatic at times in the christian bible. i've never read the gospel of judas but i've read a some of the other gnostic gospels (thomas, mary magadalene). they seem to be a much more normal view of jesus.
there's a painting called 'the laughing christ' that i've always liked. it shows jesus as a whimsical character rather than the brooding man of the bible. i saw it years ago in an issue of playboy and i've never been able to find that exact version since.

You had a good question there, but I didn't get the bit about the Gospel of Judas??? What's that all about then?

I'm sure he laughed many times. He felt sorrow, but He also felt great joy. My favorite Bible is the King James version - always will be - the Bibles that claim to be more accurate in their translations have all lost something. Some of my favorite scriptures have been changed so much that they've lost all meaning.

PR, the modern Gospel has cut out all the bits where Jesus misbehaved himself. Haven't you ever wonder why he hung out with thieves, prostitutes and tax collectors?
