The problem is that SLR cameras, using a mirror to capture the image, don't have a direct feed for an electronic viewfinder so they can't give you a computer generated image of what your picture will look like (only show you what it looks like after you take it). I believe the only SLR that offers that feature is the E330:

As you can see, it is a pretty good camera and if you want both an SLR and live viewing like you would get from a fixed lens camera, this is what you want.

I do own the Sony DSC-R1. This is not an SLR camera. However, it is the equal of most entry level SLR cameras. Note that I'm talking about SLR cameras that use a good lens here, not the crappy kit lens that typically comes with them (which you should never buy). Get SLR cameras as the body only and then buy a decent lens for them. This typically adds a few hundred dollars onto the price of the camera after all is said and done. Since you don't do that with the R1, it tends to be a cheaper option for the same quality photography.

Nothing that Iv'e heard of, However there is this little device called "Zigview" that will give a live LCD view from any SLR camera (film/digital). This allows you to pick any camera
