A devout christian was banned from flying with Easyjet after she asked staff to "stop blaspheming". the staff who were mainly of East Asian descent said "Oh my God" several times on observing a youngster who had fallen over. The staff called the devot christian "racist" and withdrew her boarding card and took her luggage off the plane and she was banned from flying by Easyjet for 24 hours. Who was right - staff or customer?

DuckPhup, You've been REPORTED.

2006-08-26 04:28:47 · update #4

TRINITY,
Oh Dear! Have I upset you by reporting you? In your case the reporting was justified because you resorted as you have again in this posting to personal abuse. Please note I follow the maxim "Sticks & Stones etc". Again your complete tantrum of abuse shows your complete inability to think through an issue. Again, I have reported YOU for abuse.

Nostromo, What a piece of work you are! I'll say what i want to whom I want when I want. As for not listening i do as it happens. But it doesn't mean I agree. i reported DuckPhup because he was insulting to Christians. I reported TRINITY because he was just plain insulting to me and harrassing me. If people cannot debate without resorting to personal abuse, they imo deserve to be reported.

Wow never heard of that!

I would say the Christian was right, but I'm not sure if that was just because I am a Christian too?!

Fact is that society has changed to make it acceptable for people to blaspheme like this. I think that asking someone to stop is perfectly acceptable if a little petty and pathetic. The commandments are for Christians to follow, and it would be madness for the whole world to have to follow them!

However, I think that people should respect other people's wishes. It is not like the staff had something to lose by saying 'Oh my Gosh' instead, as they obviously do not believe in a God, so who are they appealing to anyway?

I agree partly with someone above, perhaps it is just because she was a Christian. Perhaps if she were a Muslim then it would have been a different story, and I'm not implying terrorism (see my previous posts) but an outcry of racism. It is odd how this is supposedly a Christian country but it is ok for Christians to be insulted or whatever, far more than Muslims! I passionantly feel that racism is wrong, but does a line have to be drawn somewhere?

What do you think about your question? I think the customer, not least because the customer is always right, but also because Easyjet will now be seen as a little anitchristian.

Why do you ask questions, while the only answers you want to get is the ones you want to listen to?
Some people have their own beliefs, and they think that the staff was right.
Why report DuckPhup? Did he swear?
I dont think that woman should be treated like that, but why call them blasphemers for saying oh my god? because they are Asians? and whats wrong with saying oh my god? I dont get it.
Anyway boy, if your mommy and daddy tell you that you are the best and the smartest person around, keep it there and dont ask questions here..

Its not worth travelling by plane anymore they treat the customers like dogs - everybody should stay at home for a week, month or even a year and then see how the airlines like that - the airlines for some years have treated the customers as sheep and these days they should be made bust in order that a new set up can take place for World Travel.

i would say the staff was right becoz when i say 'o my god', there is nothing wrong in it. do u find something wrong. ? well i dont.

it was unnecessary of the woman to interefere someone's speech and conversation. as far as i was taught at home and school, it is never right to interfere in someone elses' business.

when someone i dont know is saying something, then i have no right to put a spoke in their wheel. its none of my business nor is it good manners to jump into someone elses' conversation and blame them.

imagine if someone interferes in her conversation and blasts her for saying , 'o my God'. when others dont have right to tell her, then the same applies to her. she is rather a silly woman to do that.

EDIT:
ya read the article, still feel that there was no need for her to say something. if she did not like it, she could have ignored it. dont we all do it here on YAHOO ANSWERS.?

btw, u must also see to the last lines of the article. now how can u be so sure, that the woman was right and the rest of the people were wrong.? none of us were there.

if someone says 'o my God', there is nothing wrong it and she should not expect others to walk in her shoes. she cant impose her faith and beleifs down someone's throat.

see, if i, who is seeing her for the first time, go up to her and tell her something like what u are doing is wrong, wont she pull up a bigggggggggggg fight with me.? everyone has the freedom of speech, and no one has the right to say that he/she is right/wrong.

in simple words, never give an advice or sugesstion until and unless it is seeked.

I think the staff was right here. When you ask someone to not take god's name in vain, that's kind of the same as saying "You ought to be following the ten commandments" and that can be offensive, especially when the person who is apparently "blaspheming" is non-Christian. I'll admit I don't think the woman was being racist, but she should've kept her mouth shut.

I'm not sure the word 'racist' applies.
I don't think the woman should have interfered with someone else's conversation. I think she was rude.
I don't think that alone should have her ejected from the plane though.
I can't help but think there's more to this story than that. It might not be what she said but the way it was said (or perhaps the way it was taken by the staff).

While the Christian woman's remarks were probably uncalled for (she could have just ignored it), the staff were no less innocent because they obviously did not care about the woman's sensibilities (as if theirs are more important...). Also the staff are obviously stupid because there was nothing racist about her actions (she was not calling them slitty-eyed freaks or any similar insult...). I would not fly in any airline which is full of incompetent and uncaring morons no matter what their race/beliefs are.

One more question...what were those idiot staffers doing with the poor kid who fell over asides from saying "oh my God"?

If this had happened in the US and the "believer" was a Muslim, the child would have been thrown off the plane and the Muslim would have been given a congratulatory gun and escorted straight to the cockpit.

As John Lennon said, Christians are the nig*gers of the world.

sounds like the woman totally overreacted. she should have been able to respect the fact that the staff was not christian or did not see saying 'oh my god' as blasphemy. she felt persecuted but he was also doing the persecuting. she sounds a little self-absorbed/obsessed. i think she got what she deserved. there's no reason the staff should have to put up with her overzealousness.

I would have thought Easyjet's staff would put their customers first?! For them to call her racist for asking them to stop doing something that made her uncomfortable is a bit out of order. However, I don't know the full story as this is the first I've heard of it.
