they have to have both. they must have freedom of expression. at the same time they should be cared & controled. best thing is to treat them as adults like your friend. instead of bossing over them.the parents should have constan tvigil over them . respect their friends & their friendship at the same time see that they mix with good children.at this age the kids will start learning the meaning of friends & friendship.listen to them with attention & take it seriously. they need your care, control with the freedom of expression.

You are using this terms"freedom"and "care, control" like oposite meanings. They are not, they are supposed to be "co-operative"ones.When u let a child free to express his thoughts,u let it ask questions, inquire relations and situations. That doesn't mean u don't care.Freedom shows u are part of your child's growing up and u supervise this freedom.U answer his questions(children should trust their parents as a safe source of knowledge)and u should not limit his knowledge.Aswer honestly, help it find out things on his own and when he does mistakes it's normal.Punishing should be lenient and explanations indispensable so that the child understands why u punish it.(actually I never remember being punished..but I was a wonderful kid). Explain to the child that u don't punish it but his action.Never restrict it and don't get mad at it for a long time coz u hurt it (and that lasts in its psychology) without even noticing it.Art is also good for the child to learn self control and expression.U should get it into touch with a nice hobby or a sport.Sports are the best solution.Sorry for not expressing myself very well coz I am greek and some words I wanted to use, I just can't remember them.Good luck.Bringing up a chid is art.Even though I am 17 I think u could trust me in this.I have great parents and freedom is their basic rule!!

More control and care, most definitely. A child needs structure and certainty, and you can certainly provide that. Nothing wrong of course by allowing them freedom to express themselves... within limits you establish, of course. I've seen too many kids over my 20+ years in education who were allowed to express themselves by doing whatever they wanted whenever they wanted... most ended up doing time in a boot camp or juvenile detention center.

It needs to be a balance between control and freedom. Give them limited choices, and stick with them. Example: "What do you want for dinner" is too broad, but "Would you rather go to McDonalds for dinner, or have a pizza" gives them freedom to express their views, but gives you control of the situation.

Control and care for children! Kids can learn about personal freedom the rest of their lives (thats the fun of being an adult)....childhood is for learning that there ARE rules (and believe it or not, that is 'fun' for kids!).

Control and care, that's what parents are there for,to set the guidelines. If a child has no rules to follow he/she feels lost.Sure a child has a right to express him/herself but you as the parent has to show him/her how things get done properly.

control and care definitely! When you control a child, make them obey, you are showing you care. Then they will know how to care and obey when they are older.

I think you need to find a happy medium. As long as you remain really involved and supportive it should all work out.
