I'm Looking Into Buying A Car In The Next 2 Weeks And Want To Know What To Buy. I Like Mid Size 4 Door Cars That Get Good Gas And Are Nice Inside And Out. I Don't Want To Drive A Stick And I Want It To Be Safe Cause I Have A Baby. I Want An Affordable One That Will Last Awhile Too. Any Suggestions???

DO NOT Under any circumstance by ANYTHING with a Kia or Suzuki badge. They look and feel nice for about 2 maybe 3 years, then they go Kaput! Also, they have the WORST resale value of any car make. I also would not give VW a chance either, they have gone so far downhill in terms of reliability they aren't even the same company they were 10 years ago. "Cute cars that break down a lot", that should be their slogan.

The Sonata has gotten pretty decent, but again RESALE value is the pitts.

The Fusion is completely overpriced for what it is.

I can't believe somebody could suggest a Cavalier over a Focus. The Focus is much better built and has much higher degree of inside materials, while the cavalier just reaks of cheap.

Check out the Mazda 3, Nissan Altima (although Nissan is a shell of it's former self since being taken over by Renault), the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. These cars will provide YEARS upon YEARS of enjoyment (the Toy and Honda will be over 4 or 5 years old before they even begin to feel "old"), they will break down a FAR lesser rate than anything else on the road, and when you do want to get rid of it, you can a lot of your money back.

If you have ANY doubts as to how much better Honda and Toyota are than everything else on the road, then go drive used, and I mean VERY used vehicles from a variety of manufacturers. If you don't see a remarkable (on average) difference between 100k mi Hondas/Toyotas and anything from Ford/Chevy/Chrysler, then I will eat a shoe. They are THAT much better. Seriously.

You may have seen the Tesla electric sportscar http://www.teslamotors.com

You may have even seen the T-Zero electric sports car http://www.acpropulsion.com/ACP_FAQs.htm

These two cars show that it is now possible to build electric cars that can out-accelerate a Ferrari, and go 250 - 350 miles on a single charge. But both these cars are very expensive.

So who else is working on electric cars?

Would you believe China? They have to work on EVs. There won't be enough oil to support China's future economic growth.

I drive an old electric vehicle. I also have friends with electric vehicles. Some of them have recently been able to buy some amazing, cutting-edge EV batteries from China - example:

http://www.everspring.net/product-battery.htm

These batteries are better, and cheaper than the ones in those $100,000+ sportscars above. If you look at the chart, you'll see they are as cheap as lead-acid batteries, and they hold up for 1100 charges, twice as many charges as the other LI-Ion batteries on the chart.

Now, look at this car:

http://www.milesautomotive.com/products_xs200.html

It's a Chinese electric car, which will be imported into the USA next year. The driving range is almost as good as those sports cars above. But it only costs $28500.

Alot of people swear by Hondas and Toyotas as quality cars that are a strong value.

I've really grown to like my 2004 Cavalier. Never had a problem with it. Feels solid. Looks pretty sharp with a few mods. Think the American cars (especially GM) get a bum rap sometimes. I looked at the Ford Focus... Just not in quite the same league as the Cavalier. Chevy tends to throw in alot of things you'd pay extra for elsewhere (anti-lock brakes, etc...) Unfortunately, they dumped the Cavalier for the slightly smaller Cobalt I don't care for as much. It uses the same powerplant as my Cav. Probably VERY peppy considering the smaller size. More comparable to the Focus in size and looks now IMO.

Nissan gets a little pricier, but I agree they're great cars.

While I am a Honda and Toyota fan, you will pay more of a premium for them since they hold their value so well.

I think you should consider the Hyundai Sonata or the Kia Optima for your needs. You can get a 2006 (4 cylinder)version (new) of either of them, right now for under $16,000 and they both get decent mileage (24cty/32hwy), have a 60,000 mile warranty (100,000 for transmission and engine) and both got excellent safety ratings (The Kia Optima did especially well).

While you should consider the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, if you are looking for something a little more affordable, look at the Hyundai and Kia....especially if you are going to keep the car for 5 or more years.

The Pontiac G6 or the Grand prix. I drove new cars off of trains and parked them for truckers. They where very comfortable and roomy. Well try looking at the Ford Fusion too. That was a nice car. No joke these cars are nice

Honda Accord
Toyota Camry
Nissan Altima

Buy the 4 cylinder since they provide better gas mileage.

Buy them equipped with side-curtain airbags (optional) and they should provide 5-star protection all around.

I worked for Honda and trust me, those cars arent built like they used to. their overpriced for what you get. I actually purchased a 2005 nissan altima last year and after owning that car for a year, i LOVE nissan. its very sharp looking inside and out, very spacious and perfect for fitting kids in and the price is great. never had a problem with it yet so I suggest you atleast go to a dealership and test drive an Altima

Anything that is a Honda, Toyota, Scion, Nissan, or Lexus are great names. They have good reliability and usually are good on gas. BTW Toyota owns Scion and Lexus that's why those are great names!
