does it mean that thinking people should believe everything that prophets said? as modern educated people shouldent we be using our brains to decide what we should be believing?

From a Christian, YES.
For me, that meant studying different religions in detail - seeing first-hand what all the "prophets" taught and if they actually lived what the preached and drawing reasonable and educated conclusions.
My conclusion was that the Bible is the only book of teachings that proves it's truth and provides reconcilliation for sin.
Great question. We need firm, educated, and fact based reasons for our faith.

Prophets are used by God as spokesman. It's through God where there prophecies come from. So it's not them speaking. It's God speaking through them, but there are also imatators ( False Prophets) and the Holy Spirit distinguishes True prophecy from false prophecy.(Deut. 13:1-5)

Only a true prophet will have 100% accuracy in his/her predictions. If the prophet is wrong even once, then disregard anything else they have prophesied.
