If you do something about it NOW, then it can be corrected. Your liver is the only organ that can regenerate. Fatty liver can lead to cirrhosis if not taken care of immediately. Do what the docs tell you to do. Eat right, exercise, whatever it takes. I have cirrhosis, and believe me, you don't want it. It's not something that can be cured, only delayed. And noone knows for how long before transplant is nessary. I've done my fair share of research, and can honestly say that if you correct the problem of a fatty liver now, then you still have high chance of no permanent problems of your liver. I will keep you in my prayers.

Depends on the underlying cause of it. If it is a metabolic disorder, you should be on special diet and follow it.

The more common scenario would be that you went on a binge of drinking alcohol and wound up in ER for some reason or another (fight, maybe?), where they did some tests that showed abnormal liver enzymes.

If you quit drinking in this fashion, the condition is completely reversible.
