A few words wouldn't be enough to change any deep and serious thinker.
I think most of us share a desire for meaning through a spiritual connection with the Universe, and when we marvel at the wonders of the universe, deep inside think it can't possibly have all happened by accident.
Learning without Thinking is Labour Lost;
Thinking without Learning is Perilous.
-- Kung Fu Tze (Confucius)
An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. -- Dr Samuel Johnson
Integrity without Knowledge is Weak and Useless,
and Knowledge Without Integrity is Dangerous and Dreadful.
-- Dr Samuel Johnson, English author, poet, critic & lexicographer (1709-1784)
In order that all men may be taught to speak Truth,
it is necessary that all likewise should learn to hear it.

It is easy to marvel at the wonders of the universe. But, in my opinion, religion has given masses an explaination for those wonders because most people simply want something to believe in and to have their questions answered. Therefore, religion, as a social institution of like-minded thinkers and believers, will never be banished, at least not in the near future.
Religion also stated that everything revolved around the earth and persecuted Galileo when he defied that theory.
Atheists simply do not believe in God. That does not mean that they do not also marvel at the wonders of the universe. Some believe in the scientific explaination, as where others believe in the Agnostic way of thinking - it is marvelous, but wonder how it came to be that way.
No one knows how or why it is, but it a marvelous wonder.

I totally agree with your statement, and that, since we were created with a need to believe and worship, then a few atheist views will not change that.
I also feel that those against religion will seek to ban it from the face of the earth in the very near future. They will do this without knowing that God put them up to it. And most religions will fold, but true believers will not give up in what they believe, even if they have die for it, as Jesus did. Revelation chapters 17 & 18.
Of course, it would be good to read the book of Revelation, alongside the books of Daniel, Ezekiel, and Isaiah, (and others?).

Let's put it this way, there is no such thing as an Atheist, people might call themselves that, people who are afraid of what other people might think about them. Now, I have lived through near death experiences and know of others who also have. When the so-called atheists are faced with a life or death situation, who do they call upon? God, of Course.
I have witnessed this personally and have heard of many such people who witness for Christ when they called themselves atheists. There is actually a man who set out, by reading the Bible to disprove the existence of God, as a result, He could'nt and he became a Christian. This is not an isolated example, there are so many who have given there life to Christ after attempting to read the Bible.

Religion is definitely a deep-seated part of the human collective mind. Unfortunately, we don't "know" that God does or doesn't exist (by "know" I mean scientifically). Perhaps one day we will know for certain. Until then, I'm not quite ready to give up the habit. LOL. Good luck in your quest for truth.

We are essentially spiritual creatures. Every civilisation in the past has evolved a religion of some kind to explain what they think is inexplicable. We seem pre wired to it, so I would think that a few words of atheism can hardly be enough to change it.

You have choices which are generally given to you first by your parents. Religion is one of these choices. Your parents give you a choice, believe in their beliefs or do not believe in their beliefs.
A religion at its extreme is an excercise in mind control. At lesser extremes, you are more free to have individual thought. At the extreme of no religion at all, your thoughts are able to question everything without causing any offence to your religious beliefs (or controllers).
It is certain that religion is a good thing for children who need to understand control and lack of control. For people who have independent thoughts, religion is largely something that they find no solace in. There is no benefit in believing something which someone else tells you is true just because it is written down by someone else.
Aethism is a religion in itself. Nobody believes in Aethism, it is a false religion.

Religion is so culturally established that it will be difficult to rid the world of it. The best thing that can be done to extirpate religion is the promotion of scrutiny by rational thought - that is the one test that religion cannot pass.

religion will never disappear. for one to agree with the latter part of the question would imply that God could be banished by words, and I thank God that could never and will never happen!! we have something in our human psyche cos God designed us to worship him which is why we have a longing for fulfilment and reasoning because thats what he put into us when he made us.
