I think they've definitely got their priorities mixed up, traditionally the ACLU's been for the underdogs, but if they take up for illegal aliens, it's time to take THEM to court for about 40 billion or whatever, if they've got that much money then they can pay damages to the states for all the monies they've had to spend to accomodate all of this. Illegal immigration's just 'not right', hopefully they can see that. Civil liberties are just that, your civil liberties, freedoms spelled out in the Constitution, not the freedom to damage and subvert against our country at will.
At the end of the day, there would be no ACLU outside the United States, because other countries just don't have that kind of patience. A story from last year has ACLU vs. Minutemen for example, and if the ACLU is going to take anything resembling a position on illegal immigration that's counter to enforcing the law,
again they should be taken to court directly. Illegal immigration is just that, illegal, and it needs to be stopped. I'm all for someone emigrating to our country to make a fresh start, get a new life, put some money in their bank account, get their feet under them, and becoming americans, that's perfectly OK. But, it's all gotta be legitimate and above-board, and that's not what they seem to be advocating. 'Advocate' is an apt description, too, because the main thing the ACLU seems to do is wind up in court all the time.
Anyway, my feeling is their emphasis should be on the first word, 'american' and everything else be secondary, but it's their organization or whatever, I just hope that those concerned with the rights of the 'poor, downtrodden' etc. also see that a lot of the 'downtrodden' are going on to bigger and better things, like auto theft, drug and people smuggling, murder, and so forth.
I think the Minutemen have done a great job by pointing out the problems on our border, they said in the news that there's going to be a governor's meeting, or it happened already, but anyway it's a meeting between the governors of the southern US border states and the northern Mexican border states, to discuss initiatives and partnerships on crime and securing the border.
Progress, at any rate...

They have very respectable roots, from when what they did was make sure Constitutional rights were being afforded to all American Citizens.
Lately they have apparently drafted their own idea of what rights SHOULD be, including the universal right to come here and have us pay for your education and health care at the expense of our own people. They should take the 'A' out of their name and replace it with, oh, an "R" for "Radical Civil Liberties Union" and even then the 'civil liberties' is a stretch.

I personally think that the ALCU should be declared a terrorist organization and all members should be tried for treason. Questions should be asked just like the questions we ask about "Extremist Islamic Terrorist". Number one where do they get their money. Why are they tax free. Shouldn't they be required to at least pay a little for destroying our society and way of life. Are they not attempting to incite civil war? Why don't they publish their membership? The ALCU is a festering sore which should be treated with a good application of real American Justice.

What do u stand for democracy or dictatorship?
The whole idea of democracy is health debate. In this process the best ideas come out and are followed. If there was one only one view of things, the society would collapse. Remember a country called Soviet Union?
So try and educate yourself and learn to appreciate a point of view that may be different from yours. Stop being a redneck. U will be taken for a ride by yr political party and yr church.

No, the ACLU defends freedom of speech, even when it does not believe in the politics of the speech which is being made.
In Skokie, IL, the ACLU defended the Klu Klux Klan's right to march in a black neighborhood, not because they supported the Klu Klux Klan, but because they believe in the right to state decenting opinions, and the right to assemble.
The problem with freedoms, is that once government begins to legislate limitations on those freedoms, than the flood gates for restrictions on our freedoms open, and we are living in a military dictatorship. It is our freedom which makes the USA a wonderful country, worth dying to defend, and the ACLU defends that freedom, so they are defending our way of life, not rolling over while terroristic threats are used as a rationale to destroy it.

they are not standing for the majority, the majority want to see 'merry christmas' at the front doors of the x-mas shopping season, not 'happy holidays'! who's behind that? the aclu!
they are trying to make a minority view the majority. i guess once they get done doing that then they will start standing for the minority again, which will be us.... HA!
you know the senate or something last year passed a law saying virtual child porn is okay. so as long as it's not a real kid then it's okay to be a pedophile. forget the fact that the behavior puts real children at risk.
grrrrr.......

Absolutely! Just look at the things they choose to fight. I saw and heard them on a Oprah show defend the right of child pornography, they fight against anything religious, in my opinion. They defend criminals over victims. They are against anything W.A.S.P.. How they ever got people to think they were for anything American is mind boggling. They might as well be called American Communist leftist Union. Of course, it won't be long before you won't be able to voice your opinion. Our free speech is being eroded every day.

I dislike the ACLU. I think they go to far beyond whats reasonable and necessary to protect civil rights. But I'm appalled your inclusion of atheists and homosexuals alongside child molesters and criminals.

The ACLU is a organizational watchdog for the constitution. Weather you agree or disagree with some of their stands on cases or not, you should respect that they have helped keep the constitution intact, and have helped to stabilize America.
