It's too bad we don't think the same. Elderly folks lived during a time when things were so much more simple than the world we live in now...didn't need much to survive, and literally lived on love. It's the fact that they'd prefer an old worn out item as opposed to a brand new one cause it's already broken in. How many peoples' grandparents/great-grandparents do you know that own a computer, or even a CD player??? I only dream of going back...way back when.......those days are gone forever.

What YOU don't understand is that people that lived during the great Depression learned to make things last. You know the slogan "reduce, reuse, recycle"? That's exactly what they had to do back then. My grandmother crocheted placemats from worn nylons. Even later when she had money she even recycled pantyhose! People that lived back then had to learn to make do. That's why used things like blankets and such mean more to them. And it could be that the blanket you made is so nice that the person you made it for doesn't want to spoil it. Don't be so critical of older people, my dear. You'll be old someday too, and you will have things that mean a great deal to you also.

Not sure things like that are a mtter of taste, I personally would like the new blanket more I think. I would have to see both blankets to say for sure.

My mother was like that. She would use ragged towels and when she died--she had all kinds of new and good things packed away--saying that she would save that for "good' or "company" --that it was too nice to use every day. So sad and not logical but true. You might keep the quilt and say that if she ever wants it back, you will give it back to her????

I never knew or heard about this before. A lot of people (not just old people) don't care to use something new. They think it is too "good" and they don't want to ruin it.

As we move through life things take lives of their own.
Memories can make some things so sentimental that some people refuse to ever let them go.
As you get older you will notice that to.

I do that, its because of its sentimentality
something that you spend 1/3 of your life with, you kinda feel loyal to it
