Suppose your would-be-man cannot afford you to get a real ring... would you settle for an onion ring? Would you look at that man differently? Would you be offended? What? Why?

Ladies, the onion ring is just a "stand-in" for an expensive ring! It doesn't have to be an acutal ONION ring, or it could be.

Engagement rings are really just for show. If a girl was offended by not having an expensive engagement ring then she is NOT worth marrying in the first place. I certainly wouldn't have been offended by the onion ring gesture.

I would rather have a cheap plastic ring torn of a magazine than an onion ring, although I wouldn't look at the man differently if he loved me and he I knew he meant it then great, but be careful an onion ring will start to smell after a few days.

even if how poor a man can be, i dont think that he would settle for an onion ring =( there are a lot of fancy rings in the market which is much more cheaper than an onion =)

I would be offended. Onion rings are so cheap, it would be like he didn't love me. I wouldn't settle for an onion ring. I mean, if he was poor I would accept a metal ring perhaps, or a homemade ring, but not an onion ring. I'd rather have no ring than an onion ring.

If a woman loves you, really loves you, the ring could come from bubble gum machine and it would be the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
When my husband asked me, it was spur of the moment, he didn't have a ring. We didn't have any money then but felt I needed something on my hand so we got a CZ in white gold. It was about $45 and to this day I still wear it. He has since bought me a beautiful diamond ring to replace it (and it has on that finger) but the original ring will ALWAYS have a very special place in my heart. I wear it on my right hand every day!

I would be freaked out because you can't sleep, shower or like anything with an orion ring on your finger inless you want to have bugs after you, I would settle for like a gumball machine rings until we we're secure enough to afford a real ring though. I mean money isn't everything but it helps.

No...I need a man that can afford me a real ring. The only way that I would accept that would be if both him and I thought that it was the perfect time!

don't go the onion ring route. they are smelly, can make the eyes tear up and cry. what message is that sending? I understand you are probable trying to be amusing, but try something else. Do youhave NO money? try ebay for used jewelry. Heck, I have inhereted a pile of jewelry, some with no stones, but gorgeous art deco style settings. Try for a real ring, less costly.
Craft fairs ALWAYS have people make jewelry with interesting stones like jade, lapis lazuli, etc. Try looking there for a silver ring with unusual stone. I got mine for onlly 15.00, fifteen dollars, a beautiful lapis stone. with a silver band... You have given me an idea for myself, to sell the unused/ ungemed settings on ebay... thanks for the question, but definately NO ONIONS .. one more thing, it is a day and moment she'll always always remember. you can try to make up for a less expensive ring with presenting it in an unusual way. I worked in restaurants and saw lots of interesting ways (but keep it out of food!!!) you could use yahoo questions for that too! (my brother gave his intended a teddy bear holding a little box. it took her awhile to see the box. that was fun. ... good luck

sure, as long as when i eat it, its replaced with a ring pop, then when thats eaten, a keebler cookie with the hole in the middle......no but seriosuly, if my fiance had asked me to marry him with an onion ring because i knew he couldnt afford a real ring, i wouldve still said yes. its not about material objects, its about true love. although there is layaway and payment plans :)

A ring would not be important in an engagement. You can wait for the wedding and just have a wedding band.
