My sister fed her dog all natural products like meat, farmer's cheese, eggs, etc. I want to try to feed her dog food, because I am afraid that she is not getting enough nutrients. What is good to buy for her? I think she is not used to dry food. Any suggestions?

I personally feed my dogs Natural Balance. http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/ its a premium food, doesn't have all the junk in it like alot of dog foods. As long as you feed your puppy a premium food.
Alot of dog food companies use products from rendering plants and that is why you shouldn't use a poor quality food. Here is a website where you can read some articles http://www.liferesearchuniversal.com/petfood.html

If it is under a year old, puppy chow by purina. Add a small can of pedigree for pups and that lil sucker will love you best. My daughter was feeding her dog "healthy" food and decided it was happy on it. Truth is the dog was skinny and starving to the point that it would break down and eat it but not gain weight or size. My husband and I slowly introduced good food with 30 percent protein and now it has meat on its bones and joy in its eyes.
Start out with small amounts for like three days, slightly increasing, or the pups tummy will have a foul reaction. God Bless You, congrats on the good sense of animal care.

The best pet food u can buy at a petstore is Nutro Natural choice. They have canned food and a variety of dry food for the puppy's age and size. Natural Choice has no by-products which are leftovers (like feet , heads, and intestines). Also it has no ground yellow corn which is hard for the puppy to digest. Read more about them. They are great!!!

It's not so much the brand name of food as what is in it. Look at the crude protein and the ingredients. You want the crude protein to be at least 26% and the first ingredient meat NOT MEAL or rice or oats. You want it to be chicken or lamb or beef.
I feed mine Blackwood. Iams is good too.
But again, read the ingredients and and the amount of crude protein.

Enjoy your puppy!

P.S. try to stay away from too much canned food... it can cause worms.

I am partial to natural choice, been using it with all of my animals for several years now and I think its the best. You can do a mix of there soft food and dry food until she gets the hang of it. If you are trying to avoid soft food, then just add water to the dry and let it sit for about a min, it makes it nice and soft.

I asked the vet this very question recently, the vet told me any puppy food as long as it is not that generic Old Roy brand from Walmart.

So buy what you can afford just stick to a name brand: there are times you get what you pay for.

Purina ONE is the best puppy food in my opinion. It was recommended by my puppy's breeder who breeds Cocker Spaniels, many of them show dogs. I have been feeding it to her for a year and her coat is beautiful... we always get compliments on it. A good coat is a sign of good nutrition.

Purina is what my dog seems to like...they have wet food which is also very good...I'd give the wet food and slowly integrate it with the dry food...at least that's what I did!
