So companies now, have to employ, a certain number of different pople, eg non whites, disabled people.... you must have had to fill ot the form...... companies love diversity, and have government targets to meet. It has been said, in some cases, black people get a job, to make up the numbers, i think this is terrible, so....... From now on, if your WHITE, just tick bangladeshi, and hindu - the company gets the numbers they want, other white people dont get turned down for jobs because of statistics.... and they wont ever dare turn round, and say your not a hindu, or its straight to court..... Am i being un reasonable..
I mean if your black, surely you dont want this kind of thing to happen, just as much as if your white.. the best person should get the job right?
So im not being racist.. its the government being inclusionist
What are your thoughts.. is this reasonable...

"So companies now, have to employ, a certain number of different pople, eg non whites, disabled people"
No they dont, they just cant discriminate against applicants on grounds of race etc
"you must have had to fill ot the form...... companies love diversity"
Again no- the ethnicity section on forms are used for monitoring to ensure the company is getting a full range of applicants. For example, if an advertised job returns a whole host of applications from white applicants but no black people then they would like to know why this is so- is the advert deterring these people?
"It has been said, in some cases, black people get a job, to make up the numbers"
Nope! BNP nutters might claim this but this is illegal under race discrimination laws
"From now on, if your WHITE, just tick bangladeshi, and hindu - the company gets the numbers they want, other white people dont get turned down for jobs because of statistics"
Nice theory but when you turn up to the interview you will be knocked back for being a liar- would you tke somebody on who lies when seeking employment, what kind of employee would they make? Whilst religion is easy to fake, ethnicity isnt!
"I mean if your black, surely you dont want this kind of thing to happen, just as much as if your white.. the best person should get the job right?"
Exactly! this is why we have the race discrimination laws so ALL people can compete on a level playingfield.

While I am not a personnel officer, I have sat on a number of interviewing panels and have chaired a fair few as well over the years.
Targets are just targets, the law would state that the person accepted for the job best fits more of the job criteria than anyone else that has been interviewed. Good employers that have a personnel department would remove all personal information from the application form before anyone interviewing or shortlisting an individual See's it. In most cases a disabled person would get an interview but the criteria for the job must be met. If the employer has to make adaptations for a disabled person, the employer has to do this. There are exemptions where an employer has to have a female employee.
As a black British guy, I think that you are on dodgy ground and personally I would be offended if I was offered a job just because I am black

It's actually optional to give that information, but I'm sure that if you don't fill it out, they probably will just forget about you. No, it is not right for people to get jobs who are not the highest qualified. Think of some job where safety is a concern. Would you rather have the best people watching your back, or someone who is not as well qualified? This is the repercussions of Affirmative Action and favoring minorities. It has gone past its point of doing good. Now non-minorities are being hurt by the policies because minorities are getting so much help and so many favors.

I don't think you understand the concept of diversity... the form filling for equal opportunities was to include women also. I agree to some extent with the idea of filling in the form because it enables statistics to be compiled but I can see your point about it being a form filling exercies. However, your comment about not being racist concerns me because if we didn't have racism within the workforce in the first place then these type of forms wouldn't need to exist but unfortunately a large majority of people whether they were non-white or non-british (except for ex pats from south africa) were unable to get work within this country and if they did access work it was usually menial although their qualifications exceeded the task at hand and this is how such forms originated because it wasn't a case of the best person for the job it was given to you based on whether u fitted. i.e race, religion, sex, disability. I mean when we had those telethons for disabled people in the 80's, all of the participants were actors and none of them disabled....

I just love it when somebody starts a question with "I'm not a racist, but...."
As a black person, I want people to stop denying me a job because I am black, ignoring that I deserve the job. Yes it still happens. Until then, some poeple will have to be forced to hire based on merit and that means hiring people of other races who are qualified for the job.
Your idea will be great when you can actually see the non-white people having greater opportunities and success than whites in general and all discrimination against non-whites is eliminated.
(not just in your imagination)
Until then, your lack of success is really your own fault.

I think the government are a bunch of cowards, racism exists very much in this country, and i think they are to blame for a lot of it, isolating certain issues like employment ethics just raises prejudice amongst our communities, just like housing and schooling etc.... if they concentrated more on real issues rather than magnifying human rights and racism they would discover that our citizens would live and work quite happy together on our own term and not those forced upon us. The government just seem to give us ammunition to make us feel persecuted, creating a domino effect. Equality should exist but it doesn't, this is reality unfortunately, and the government do gooders are to blame. They don't live in the real world, if they did they would know immense damage they are causing to our communities, ( or should i say lack of them now) This is all very sad, but will get worse. LIVE AND LET LIVE !!!!!!

My dear friend, let me give you a piece of advice. Never say or write "I am not a racist." it is a really bad idea, and makes people certain you are one.
I myself do think that the best person should fill a position. But does it happen? Don't the prejudices of the employer get in the way?
For all sorts of reasons people who would be good at a job don't get the opportunity. The form you have to fill in is not ideal, it is a rather ham-fisted way of checking on the representation of people who might be disadvantaged. However it may have the advantage of at least making people aware of the fact that their choices are often influenced by extraneous factors.

There is no point saying you are something you cant prove.
So why not just say you are a Jedi (we all know enough Star Wars stuff and enough people put Jedi on the UK census so it is a recognised religion just muddle your word order up like Yoda and say some deep stuff) or claim to be gay / pre operative transexual (surely you could not be expected to prove this to your boss) , or even a gay Jedi then you can hit two quotas, but why not stop there cut off a leg too and you can be a disabled gay Jedi and hit three quotas, but why stop there murder your partner too and bring up your child by yourself and you could hit four quotas as a gay single parent disabled Jedi........
But if you could hit four quotas then you don't actually need a job, just put a ridiculously large grant application into Lambeth council and live off that for the rest of your life. You can waste it doing outreach work going round the pubs and clubs in the UK and undertaking networking research expeditions to places like Thailand to locate other similarly persecuted disabled gay Jedi single parents to offer them support and housing in Lambeth
or then again..................

Sweet its called affirmative action and it comes from a place of recognition that certain groups don't have an equal fotting in this world of ours. I see what you're saying and you aren't being particularly oppressive but to ask whether a member of an oppressed group doesn't want their society to try and remedy some of the social injustices that exist and blight their lives, is very smart, obviously we don;t want people to think we're receiving things or opportunities just to tick boxes, we hope that our involvement is valued on the skills we have.
it is reasonable to ask this question, i just wouldn't recommend playing the system like that, its about time white people started to understand what it means to have to work harder to get the same chances, and lets face it, overall that isn't the case, it isn't mostly white people unemployed these days, and it also isn't mostly white people suffering from the blacks in power who are staealing everything they have. I think affirmative action isn't the best we can do but its a start, to try and use it against us, or for yourself is a bit ridiculous and hypocritical, like saying racism doesn't exist or something.
Good luck with your search, good question too!

Actually the goverment only set targets for certain areas ie.Where i live we have 17000 muslims which is 70% of the population. So 70% of the people in public sector jobs will be muslim. These muslims all speak 2,3 or 4 languages. The way they advertise the job is.It is an advantage if you speak punjabee etc.So if you are white and can speak 2 or 3 different languages then you'll prob' get the job. However 99% of the rest of the population of my area don't.So the people who speak broken english and 3 other languages get the job.
