First off, there is nothing to be ashamed about in having lice. Anyone can get them through social contact of one form or another. Unfortunately there is a social stigma attached to it. I guarantee that many more people have had them than are willing (brave enough) to admit. Please pass that on to your friend.
There is an over the counter product called RID. Treating lice is a challenge to get rid of all of them. It requires a bit of dedication. You can find RID products at any pharmacy or Wal Mart. Rid has a shampoo that you can get to treat yourself (or your friend). Afterwards, take the lice comb to pull out dead and dying lice burried in the hair. This will also take out the "nits" eggs attached to your hair follicles that only a very fine toothed comb (lice comb) can remove.
A home remedy that has worked for us is taking a base of olive oil, add to that essential oils of lemon grass, juniper, eucalyptus, sage, tea tree, rosemary and lavendar. If you have never used essential oils before, they go a long long way, only 5 - 10 drops of each depending on how much olive oil you use. Massage this into the hair and scalp thoroughly and then comb through with a nit comb. We found this to work much better than the RID products. Either way, I wish you and your friend luck.

Try Rid shampoo first of all, and you must make sure that you wash everything in your house, make sure you spray as well, your furniture, you must also make sure that you spray your car seats as well. throw away your combs and brushes if you can or boil them in hot boiling water. If the shampoo doesn't work, you will need to use baby oil in the hair and pick them out by hand, Sounds gross I know, but my oldest daughter got lice from a girl she rides the bus with and the Rid didn't take care of it.
Hope this helps good luck

there are lots of different brands at your local pharmacy to wash your hair with that kills the lice, nits and eggs, there is also a special comb u can buy to comb out the dead ones, they love clean hair and wont live on a dirty person for the simple fact the hair is too greasy and they cant stick to the hair folicles. once u have treated your head with this product and combed them all out u must repeat the process again in 1 week as directed on the bottle. u must do all bedding as well . there is another spray u can buy that kills them on your furniture bedding ect. wash bedding in hot water and throw in dryer .
if u go to the local phamacy they will give u what u need .
pets cant catch it so dont worry about them.
hope this helps .

I took an Entomology class (insects) and we did a lab on lice. Your friend should not have to shave his or her head, but a shorter haircut (as short as they can tolerate) will help get rid of the things faster. Coat the hair in vaseline, cover it in a shower cap, and leave it on overnight. This suffocates the lice and kills them. But, again, its easier to do if you cut some of lice and their eggs out of the hair. (Plus, they'll have less places to hide).
To make sure *you* don't get them, wash your hair every day. Contrary to belief, having dirty hair does not make you more likely to get lice. But washing the hair daily will remove one or two insects if you happen to pick a couple up. Also, coat your hair in tea-tree oil to prevent getting them. It smells strong but the lice will have a harder time gripping your hair. Good luck!

I have heard that Mayonaisse works well on lice ( on your best friends head) The lousy little lice should just slide off. You might have her repeat the Mayo treatment a few times, tho. I hope it works for her...

You need to go to the drug store and get some product to treat her hair. Also all the bedding and clothes need to be washed as lice can live in these items. You should also treat your hair just in case your heads came into contact with one another.

They have special shampoos for lice. But the best way is not to share other people's hair brush. (Not saying that I don't) lol.
