Agnostic here, not wanting to change anyone's religion.

We all know the difference between red and blue, and between up and down, but not everyone says the same definition for God and for Love.

Why do you think that is?

Semantics is what I do, and have done, for almost forty years.

I've learned that each of us places a "nuance" to every definition. Words mean what they meant within the context where we first learned their meaning.

So "sad" for me comes with the memory of losing my rubber ball in traffic when I was three.

As we re-experience these words, they gain a more complicated "nuance", as each new context is tacked onto the definition.

So, "sad" for me also comes with the memory of the loss of my father and grandfather, the loss of my first love, etc.

Words like "God" and "Love" come with a huge number of experiences, each tacking it's context onto our "nuanced" understanding of the words. Thus, few will truly agree on what is meant.

Dictionaries are marvelous things, and I wish more people would use them more often to understand the words that are said ("this seems like..." is very different from "this is...").

Hope that helps.

Love is probable easies to answer. Love has a different forms, Love between friends, Love between family members, Love of a spouse, A mothers Love. All are different types of love but still a from of love. Love is the strongest of human emotions, Love is kind, love is rejoicing when in the presents of those it is seeking. Love rejoices when good things happen and is sad when wrong happens. Love doesn't lift up itself but reaches out to others. Love is the one human emotion that if used can bridge all the gaps between man. Love is not the easies emotion to use.

We are selfish people, we put ourselves before others, make ourselves first. Love doesn't do that. We are not humble, we don't want to put others before ourselves, it is against our nature. It also against what Love is. The Love on man has grown cold and is getting colder as each day goes by. Look at how we treat each other. Where is the love?????

God on the other hand can be defined many different ways by whom ever you ask. God can take the form of many different things. Funny thing is people can many things into gods with out even realizing that they have done so. Money is one of the biggest things that people will many their god, don't believe that, look around. Money is the tool that we use to get the things we need and here is the kicker, the things we want. It is the thing we use to obtain the things we desire the most. The things we desire are what we thing are going to make us happy, money is the tool needed to purchase that happiness. It then becomes the desire for more and more. We finance our lives away to buy the goods of our happiness, we then lose sight of where true happiness is.

Some people make god the looks, we have all seen this but still it happens. But looks never last, age always catches up and passes them by. What is left is just glances of things gone by.

The God I believe in the creator, the Father of Christ is the one God that never changes. The greatest gift He gave us all was the gift of love, no great loves has a man than he would lay down his life for his friends. What I believe is what He did. Gave his all that we might live. I don't ask you to believe as I believe, only to say that this is what I believe. It is my choice and I have chosen it. Everyone makes their own choice and that is what it all is about. I believe by faith that the choice I have made is the right one and with Love it will show.

'God' and 'love' are words which have definitions. But, in today's reletivistic society, people want everything their way. So people think that definitions are subjective. Taken to extremes, this obviously does not work. Just as moral relativism does not work - as we are learning the hard way. If words do not have objective meaning, then our ability to communicate is completely lost. If we do not recognize objective morals, then our ability to live together as a society is completely lost.

Everyone is unique and so are their perspectives, experiences and environment and all play a factor on how anything is viewed. If you have negative experiences with either love or God then your outlook on either will based partially around that. Everything we include in our lives affects how we believe in things and define things.

Colors like red and blue are tangible & hence objective , God and Love are abstract terms, their interpretation & understanding are subjective, depending on the perception of each individual.

Love is an attribute, "God" is a being(in theory). While a God may exibit love, Love doesn't have the ability to exibit "God".
