The Visa process became much more difficult after 9-11. The government is just taking a very careful look at all the people trying to get Visa's and that's slowing down everything. Hang in there...you'll get it!

Check their wbsite for details. Since 9/11 immigration in the US has become a complete joke, (rightly so to some extent but really...come on America you CAN do better!)
It took my friend 4 years and she was married to an American, has got 7 year old twin boys born in America and had already had 3 visas.

I think 12 months is not too long. It usually takes atleast 1 year and a little more than that. So dont worry. You will get your visas sometime soon.

I think it is great that you are going the legal way to come to the USA! It is too bad that so many do not, and now have an immigration problem. Add the terror threat, and the normally slow government turns in to the ultimate bureaucratic slow
