What are you doing in your friends' house so that the dog has access to your pants I ask myself - nudge nudge, wink wink.....

Not sure about the friend bit - and it doesn't really matter if the dog is a lab or not. I think that probably the dog knows you and quite likes you. By taking a garment that has your scent on it, he will feel close to you.
My old dog, a cross boarder collie (well, not that cross, he was usually quite well tempered!), would steal my panties from in front of the washing machine and run around the street with them in his mouth!
Why he does it? You'll have to ask him. To solve the problem, leave your underpants on when you visit your friend.

Cos they smell like manna from heaven to a dog; loads of information in the smells on a pair of underpants. Probably the canine equivalent of a really good book.Plus he probably gets attention for doing so- ' Wow, I just drag these fragrant boxers into the living room and everyone smiles and laughs, aren't I clever?'

Most dogs will take items like that because of the scent. They like to chew them up, and I had a Beagle once who would swallow pieces of underwear. You've got to remember how much more sensitive a dog's nose is than ours, at least 400 times, some breeds even more. One drop of sweat/urine/whatever is like an alarm going off in the house to them. Maybe it's the pheromones that attract them to those articles and nature dictates their reaction. Anyhow, get a laundry bin or place the clothing out of his reach. (He'll react the same way to disposed feminine hygiene products as well). Good luck, and take yourself shopping for some replacement so you don't have to go commando! lol

If it is a young dog then it's normal. All young dogs steal clothing, clean or dirty. Young dogs like to chew and clothing makes their teeth feel good.

He likes your scent, which is on all your clothes but more so on the underpants...keep the lid on the clothes basket, man alive!

It's the smell. As much as we love them, dog's are dirty little so and so's when it comes to this sort of thing!
