In our Judeo-Christian society, the documents collectively known as the Bible serve as the primary guide on most issues. It is interesting that many Christians take literally the references to homosexual acts, while interpreting other text with great flexibility. One person reported listening to a nationally-known woman speak in her campaign against homosexuality. She spent quite a bit of time quoting impressively from Leviticus. The listener accepted much of what the speaker said until he realized that, by Levitical standards, the crusader herself had broken many biblical laws – she spoke in church (1 Corinthians 14:34), she taught men (1 Timothy 2:12), she was wearing a dress made of cotton and polyester (Deuteronomy 22:11), and others of which he was probably unaware.

What does the Bible really say about homosexuality? Actually, very little. Most significantly, Jesus said nothing at all. Considering the relatively small amount of attention the Bible pays to the subject, we must ask ourselves why this is such a volatile issue. Other subjects about which the scriptures say a great deal (e.g. judgment, pride, hypocrisy) receive much less passionate attention. Before looking at specific passages, it is important to note that everyone understands the scriptures based on, and through, the light of what they have been taught. The Bible was not written in a cultural void, and many of its instructions and laws are simply classified as less relevant today (e.g. prohibition against eating pork).

Nowhere does the Bible actually address the idea of persons being lesbian or gay. The statements are, without exception, directed to certain homosexual acts. Early writers had no understanding of homosexuality as a psychosexual orientation. That truth is a relatively recent discovery. The biblical authors were referring to homosexual acts performed by persons they assumed were heterosexuals.

I completely agree. I'm so tired of the so-called "Christians" judging other peoples lifestyles in the GLBT section. The bible also focuses on casting stones, judging others, and to have love for all of gods creations. It doesn't say, except for homosexuals.

And to loony_liz, your name fits your personality. I read some of your questions. Eventhough you stand against your own sexuality, it seems like you have asked a lot of questions regarding lesbians. You must be infatuated with them.

the bible condemns homosexuality because its : -the only sin that affects your body.

and jesus said that homosexuality is wrong. he said it to paul, because paul recieved his teachings from jesus.

if you are homosexual, you will not inherit the kingdom of god.

homosexuality is an abomination. those are statements of the bible.

I agree with you that a woman should not teach people. But she was not in church, she just let people know.

The law is something that jesus came to fulfill. it includes that people are not homosexual anymore. BUT the fulfilllment of the law is not necessary, because we're not jews, like wearing clothing made with different cloth and stuff. BUT not being homosexual, even if it is a part of the law, is important not to do for your own good. Otherwise it would have not been mentioned in the evangelic (new testament). PS: as for the offerings of animals: God told the people that he doesn't like the offerings LATER IN HISTORY. He wants people to obey him, and not offerings anymore. Because people also offered him weak animals or sick animals, and he only wants the best. He wants the best of us, and he doesn't want us to be homosexual.

I can only tell you that I was homosexual myself ,and am fighting against it, I still have homosexual dreams though, but all in all I feel better today, really. Homosexuality feels like a delusion now. I am much more down to earth, have better contact with friends etc. Its your choice....and yes its not easy but I think its worth it, like that I can enter the kingdom of god...its always good to please him.

PS: I do it because its written in all the religions I know of, also hinduism and islam, so I guess there must be something real and true about it.

The fact of the matter is that the bible was written and translated by innumerable amounts of people. For this reason alone, it should not be taken literally. All it takes is for one of the people that translated long ago, to have a bias or hatred towards homosexuals. He could easily add things that were not originally intended and suddenly it is law. "GOD hates homosexuals" etc
I think its bull. Truly religious people love all of gods creatures. Christianity is based on love. These people that hate homosexuals are religious zealots, and in my opinion not much better then Islamic militants that kill in the name of ALLAH.

I am atheist by the way.

and in Romans also.

Jesus is a myth.

If your going to be gay you cannot be a christian according to the bible.

If you are going to reference the Bible, maybe you should stick to the facts, instead of making groundless interpretations.

Homosexual activity has been around as long as man has, along with all the other sins of mankind, and it most certainly was known, practiced and abhorred.

God detests it, along with all other types of sexual and non-sexual sin and warns us away from it. Just because one person decries it while steeped in alleged hypocrisy does not make it any less certain that God is against it.

Rom 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools
Rom 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.
Rom 1:24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.
Rom 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural.
Rom 1:27 The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty for their perversion.
Rom 1:28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong.
Rom 1:29 They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, disputes, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.
Rom 1:32 Although they know full well God's just sentence--that those who practice such things deserve to die--they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.

1Co 6:9 Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals,
1Co 6:10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, or swindlers will inherit God's kingdom.

Gal 5:16 I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don't do what you want.

1Th 4:3 For this is God's will, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality,
1Th 4:4 so that each of you knows how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
1Th 4:5 not with lustful desires, like the Gentiles who don't know God.

Jud 1:7 In the same way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them committed sexual immorality and practiced perversions, just as they did, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
Jud 1:8 Nevertheless, these dreamers likewise defile their flesh, despise authority, and blaspheme glorious beings.

Try to read Gen with deep understanding!
Sodom was a town filled with Queers!
it was destroyed.

It is a warning, that to continue in this way will lead to hell and death! It is not a judging, but a warning.

Do and believe as you will, enjoy for all I care.
Its only Sad that a soul has to be so foolish as to seek to destroy itself!

Just because people are dedicated to a certain religion does not mean that they truly know god and often show their seperation through their blatant actions.
