are you serious? It is lingo used for the internet. Rather than type out the entire word people shorten them. Lol, for example, stands for Laugh out loud for when someone says something funny.

Most websites say Lots of Love . . . I see it used almost exclusively for Lots of Laughs and Laugh out Loud! Of course my favorite is ROFALMAO . . . rolling on floor and laughing my *** off.

lol means laugh out loud. but most people type it out of habbit, because most of the time no one is actually laughing out loud. its usually used in instant messeging, and personally, i think its a little rude to use it while answering questions on here.
