Or does it make some people too uncomfortable?

2006-08-25 23:12:00 · 24 answers · asked by Henry 5 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

I reason I am here is because of all the death and destruction going on in the world in the name of God.

Will it be my family who are killed next?

So do I have the right to question YOUR faith?

Of course you can express your reflection of your world view. This is America !!

But I seriously doubt that you'd actually make anybody feel uncomfortable. After all, this is the USA and we've had a lot of years of religious oppression, squelching, and seculiarism running around for decades.

Nothing we haven't heard or seen before, -fella !!

If you think that a question would make others (or even you ) uncomfortable, that probably means its a very good question. It's hugely beneficial to consider the questions that we ourselves might never have thought of asking, and these forums are the perfect place for posing them.

For example, someone mentioned "secularism running around", lol. We should remind them that the US government is a secular institution, not to be confused with the church :) The religious backgrounds of the founders isn't the issue, they went out of their way set up our system where the government doesn't interfere in people's free exercise of religion and doesn't promote any one religion over another.

Of course you should, I am an atheist myself and I think that you should express yourself just for the people that would like to hear your opinion, don't take into consideration those who might discourage you and those who might try to make you feel that you are wrong.
Religion is something very personal but after all, nobody has the right to stop you from expressing your views, this is the foundation of democracy, and Internet is democratic.Being Atheist is the way you feel, the way I feel, the way any Atheist may feel, so...express it! ! !

Hello!! :o) You have a perfect right to question anything you like. It's not the questions that bother me - it's how some people WORD those questions. There's a big difference between saying, "I don't agree with you and this is why...." and "You're wrong AND you're stupid!!" lol See what I mean?! A little DIS-comfort is good. It makes people [well... some people!!] THINK!! Craig!! :o)

Sure. You believe the way you do for your own personal reasons. Nothing wrong with sharing them. Christians just happen to believe they were commanded by Jesus to "go and spread the gospel to the world" and that is why Christians say what they believe and question your views if that's what you mean. As for myself, i can respect what you believe.

Why not? Religion and spirituality, I believe, includes the lack of those beliefs. Furthermore, this category is under Society and Culture, and you are a part of society and culture and your views need to be heard and understood.

if they question why you are atheist then yes you should question their beliefs...it does make people uncomfortable because if people do question their believes then they cant go on believing what their parents taught them without actually reading their bible/Qur'an/Torah (or anything they get their information from). People are uncomfortable because they rather be told what to believe rather than actually finding out for themselves.

Jesus hung out with the winos. When they criticized Him, He
said He didn't come to save the saved, but the lost.
Christians are told to not be contentious. Argue. But to sit down
and reason with each other.

You have just as much right to express your views as anyone else. The belief system doesn't matter.
