Pigeons and doves have been around for a long time-long before humans. Rock Pigeons are thought to have originated in southern Asia several million years ago. Compare this to modern humans that first appeared about 120,000 years ago.

Town pigeons are rock doves, domesticated for food/post/pets then gone feral again. Their wild range is all around the Mediterranean, and scattered patches of wild coast on the Atlantic shores of France and the British Isles. The urban ferals would mainly be descended from French and Italian specimens.
