The cat was purchased from a cattery and the conditions couldn't have been more different than my home. I know siamese are vocal but she seemed to be in distress. It may be that she doesn't like the silence at night as the cattery was incredibly busy and noisy. Any ideas?

I've had two Siamese cats, or rather they have owned me. The breed is vocal there is no getting around that. It sounds like your kitty is getting used to it's surroundings and is having a tough time in the quiet. Maybe a radio or TV being on at night might help.

This is my prejudice, but I have always been a believer in having cats in pairs. They really do keep each other company when we are at work all day and sleep or play together at night. Think about getting a second kitty. If you can't afford to go back to the cattery then get thee to the local shelter and get a basic kitten. You will be doing a good thing for both little ones and you just might sleep better at night.

What she is basically doing is crying for her mother. 'Mom- I don't know this place. It might be dangerous. Come get me NOW. I'm right HERE. WHERE ARE YOU?' You've got some good suggestions here and I'm not sure I have much to add. She needs to feel more secure- playing with her and giving her a lot of attention during the day would help.

I would let her sleep with me but that's a personal decision. I know there are websites devoted to Siamese- do a search and visit some. I'll bet you find this specific issue addressed. Best of luck. Even if you do nothing- the behavior will gradually fade as the kitten grows more secure with you. But I am sure the tips you've received will speed things along.

Try putting something in the room with the kitten that makes a steady noise; perhaps a fan, or something that vibrates similarly might do nicely. Be sure that she is adequately fed - she'll sleep better on a full stomach. Make sure she has a warm spot to sleep (my Siamese loves an old Polartec throw that I have); I've also heard of people using hot water bottles, but I've never tried that personally. Don't use a heating pad - they are too warm for a young kitten. It's also good to isolate her at night from other people and animals in the home; once she figures out everybody is asleep and she's not missing out on anything, she'll mostly likely sack out too!

Siamese kittens are talkers, that just the breed. She's also trying to adjust to her new home. She maybe lonely if she's your only cat too. You might think about getting another kitten to keep her company. Also keep her wake in the day time, as cats are nocturnal they naturly want to sleep during the day and be awake at night. You can also have a play time with her right before you go to sleep to sort of tire her out so she'll be more inclined to want to sleep too.

Yes I used to have a siamese. She was the sweetest thing. At first she would hide and meow all the time because she was afraid of the new house and my dogs scared her. I kept her inside for awhile and would play with her very often. I let her sleep in my bed as well. Once she was comfortable I introduced her to the dogs and she grew to love them too. I taught them not to hurt her. You will love this cat more than anything!

Yeah, when I got my siamese, she meowed all the time for awhile too. Once yours gets more used to her new place, she'll be a little quieter. Btw, if you plan on letting her sleep with you, be prepared to be nagged by your siamese when it's bedtime. lol Mine always knows what time I go to bed and if I'm still up past that time, she sits by my feet, looks up at me, and meows her head off. And if I mimic her, she knows I'm playing but she lowers her voice and does a few really deep meows. lol It's the cutest thing... Trust me, you're gonna fall in love with that siamese of yours before you know it, if you haven't already. =D

Probably lonely / insecure... I've seen this happen before. Won't go on long. Cat will get used to the new surroundings and bond with you.
