It depends on the type of Yoga, and, the length of time youhave been over weight, and, your will power. If you follow all rules going with Yoga for weight reduction, such as food habits, other light exercises, stress management, meditation etc., you'll start seeing results in about 21 days time -- at any rate, 41 days should be one 'cycle' of span of time, when you would definitely see results.

Yoga won't help you loose weight. It will help tone what it is there. If you are overweight then some of that fat will be converted to muscle. As muscle is less dense then fat then you will look slimer but may actually weigh more.
The only way to loose weight is to eat less, exercise more using your cardio system (ie get your heart & lungs going), or best of all a combination of both.
When exercising for weight loss it is actually preferable to put in a little effort to get your heart going and your breathing heavier than normal but this shouldn't be high intensity as this will actually largely by pass your fat burning zone. So a little more effort than normal but not high intesity is best. If you think of things on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is just walking around at a normal pace and 10 is maximum effort you will only really need to be about 3 or 4.

Yoga is a continous thing. I don't think you can "lose weight", but instead, your body becomes much more toned and takes a nicer shape/figure.
And if you really want to try yoga for weight management, you should try types of yoga that's much more intense like POwer Yoga. This kind of yoga is held in a warm/hot room so that as you do yoga, you perspire a whole lot.
Best of luck!

Yoga is almost useless as a way to lose weight, unfortunately. Even more intense exercises such as weight-lifting are also not very effective. In order to lose fat, you need an aerobic exercise, such as running, cycling, skating etc... Something that will get your heart rate up and cause you to burn calories. Yoga won't do that!

depends on the form of yoga. google "yoga calories burned" to get an idea...3500 calories constitute a pound.
think about adding aerobics for fat burning and resistance for adding muscle a)UU to increase your metabolism if weight loss is your goal.
