i'm a moderate muslim, i don't wear a veil, sometimes i drink and eat pork, and sometimes i miss doing my daily prayers. some of my non-muslim friends say i'm the worst muslim they ever know. but i'm not. i'm just not that religious (yet). still it's really hurtful when i read/hear people's comments about islam and muslims. when i first started coming to yahoo answers i cofronted those questions, even got some hateful messages but now i think i'm just gonna let it go. i can't change how most of the world think but maybe i can change how some of the people around me.
it is hard to travel, 2 years ago i went to america and on the airport i got searched, i had to put on a 'security-checked' sign on my handbag, and was escorted to the plane. and i don't even look like a terrorist. i'm a really small girl with a childlike face! lol..seriously.
anyway, i've come to accept how people treat us because there's nothing i can do about it. i hate those terrorists just like everyone else. i hate that they do those stuff in the name of islam. all i can do is hope that someday people can see that islam is not a violent religion.

I think you've encapsulated the problem of generalising very well. It's like saying all Christians are evil because of the IRA, it just doesn't make sense. The real problem with this world is that 99% of us go about our business and try to lead reasonable lives, including all the moslems I know (about a dozen), but of course they don't make the front pages, do they? It's also terribly hard to stand up against extremists. Ordinary Germans, who were horrified by the excesses of the Nazis, would find themselves in jail or death camps if they raised their heads above the parapet. While there are aspects of Islam that disturb me (on my travels, I've seen women locked into their houses for example), all religions disturb me. They're all predicated on "my God is the one true God, and everyone else is an unbeliever" so they nearly all have intolerance as their basis. No wonder they cause so many wars.

Like you, I do not believe there is such thing exists called "Moderate Muslims". I (as a Muslim myself) believe that there are Muslims and then we have Muslim nuts.
What do I feel about the questions here? I see it as yet another opportunity to explain my faith, not for the person who posed the insulting question but to those who will read it in future.
Yes, there are times when a question is a comment rather than an insulting question or a false accusation and I just flag them for the sake of keeping Y!A as clean as possible.

I think it is perfectly acceptable for British people to believe that Islam is a repressive and medieval religion. Muslims want to see Sharia Law in the UK. That would mean stoning people to death, hanging and the chopping off of hands. Men would be able to have up to 4 wives. Women would be compelled to cover up their hair and faces. Islam allows believers to discriminate by law against non-bekievers. The word of a muslim would always carry more weight than a non-believer regardless of the merits of the case. The word of a man would always carry more weight than that of a woman. A man could divorce his wife almost at whim. IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK IS FAIR. If so, go and live in Saudi Arabia or Iran.

In one of his audiotapes which was released on January 19th, 2005, Osama ben Laden had declared: "If you [Americans] are sincere in your desire for peace and security, we have answered you. And if Bush decides to carry on with his lies and oppression, then it would be useful for you to read the book 'Rogue State', which states in its introduction ... " He then goes on to quote the opening of a paragraph (which appears actually in the Foreword of the British edition only, that was later translated to Arabic), which in full reads:
"If I were the president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. Permanently. I would first apologize -- very publicly and very sincerely -- to all the widows and the orphans, the impoverished and the tortured, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism.
I would then announce that America_s global interventions -- including the awful bombings -- have come to an end. And I would inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the union but -oddly enough - a foreign country. I would then reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims and repair the damage from the many American bombings and invasions. There would be more than enough money. Do you know what one year of the US military budget is equal to? One year. It's equal to more than $20,000 per hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born.
"That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated."
Bush is responsible for the death of at least 250,000 civilians (not including certain of Iraq), reveals a compilitation of scientific studies and corroborated eyewitness testimonies.
The majority of these deaths, which are in addition those normally expected from natural causes, illness and accidents, have been among women and children, documents a well-researched study, that had been released by The Lancet Medical Journal.
Below is a running total of the U.S. taxpayer cost of the Iraq War. The number is based on Congressional appropriations.

I understand what you are saying. As a Muslim, I see the ignorance of people who ask questions to stir up anger rather than bring about an understanding of each other. I like questions that relate to my beliefs and how people can understand what we believe. The media has been telling all kinds of lies and distortions about Islam and Muslims. Right now we are in propaganda war and the victim is the religion of Islam. I suggest people read the history of Muslims and the religion of Islam. In recent times we can see clearly who is trying to make peace and who is creating hostility and hatred. People just need to learn, and get other sources for their information so they can have a broader prospective of the world and people who live in it.

I think the Muslim "Profile" would be a little better if we saw Muslims condemning these terrorist and acts of violence.
But it's all very quiet from where I sit.

no be counted what sins you've committed or how wild your previous changed into. conceivable develop right into a Muslim.. Islam erases all sins committed earlier to transforming into a Muslim. Prophet (ought to the peace and advantages and mercy of Allaah be upon him) suggested, “Islam annuls what got here before it.” (narrated by using Muslim in his Sahih, no. 121).once you develop right into a Muslim all of your previous sins are forgiven and also you initiate a sparkling state. Or an finished sparkling list. Muslim (121) narrated that ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas (ought to Allaah be extremely joyful with him) suggested: even as Allaah positioned Islam in my heart, I got here to the Prophet (peace and advantages of Allaah be upon him) and suggested: “provide me your excellent hand so as that i ought to swear allegiance to you.” He held out his hand and that i withdrew my hand. He suggested, “what's the be counted, O ‘Amr?” I suggested, “i favor to stipulate a situation.” He suggested, “What do you want to stipulate?” I suggested, “That i'd be forgiven.” He suggested, “Do you not recognize that Islam destroys that which got here before it?” best of success and God bless.......
