Ok ENGLISH is the language of AMERICA. Then why do I go to work and all I hear is blah blah blah
About 1/3 of the people I supervise are puerto rican and mexican. They blast their crappy spanish music, speak spanish WHEN THEY ARE FULLY CAPABLE OF SPEAKING ENGLISH.
Its freaking rude.
Very rude!
When you are in a room full of people, and a small group starts blaring things in spanish.
I posted a note on the employee board stating that their needed to be a change, we have had 7 complaints by 4 airlines for their rude behavior. And Airlines dont tolerate that.
Should I fire them if this continues?
Do you agree its rude?
By the way, Im not racist, I am human, I have patience! and its RUDE.
WE ARE IN AMERICA IF YOU HATE ENGLISH GO BACK TO WHERE THEY SPEAK SPANISH, DONT BE RUDE.

Don't put up with their crap, or they will overtake you!
I live in a small city in Southern California, just north of the U.S./Mex. border. I cant go to the bank, order fast food, or do anything unless it is in spanish language. My wife cant get a job, because she is not bilingual. What the hell, I thought we lived in America.
If we continue to put up with it, we will soon be living in Amerixco.
THUMBS UP NATALIE!

Oddly enough, America is one of the few countries that have a population that mainly speaks one language. I keep finding these statements that other countries won't put up with having people speaking foreign languages, but it's just not true. Maybe what you should try to do is to calmly explain to your employees that many people feel that when they speak Spanish they are talking about the person who can't. This makes people uncomfortable and that's not a good work environment. I'm not entirely sure from what you have written here exactly what the complaints were about, but the best way to change behaviour in people is to communicate, understand, and respect each other.

While I do not agree with everything you say... I will agree that is it rude to speak another language in front of someone that doesn't speak it.
My sister worked at a resturant while she finished her degree. There were some Mexican guys in the dish room that would talk like pigs about how they wanted to rape some of the waitresses. My sister who speaks fluent Spanish and has visited Spain, caught them talking in detail about how they wanted to rape her and how stupid she was that to not know that they had stolen money from her purse and she told them in Spanish that they were f ing pigs and got a manager. All of the f ing pigs were out of a job and the manager called the cops on them. They had to serve some jail time (Lo and behold they were wanted!)
Moral... watch what you say... some of us "ignorant" Americans can speak your language!!!

I agree, in the work place when not on break English should be the only language spoken. When on break, the courteous thing to do would only speak English but should not be mandatory. If you feel compelled to fire them because they insist on speaking Spanish (or any other language for that matter) I personally would advise against it because you might wind up being fired yourself. If I recall correctly you can not fire someone based upon their race (which if you fired someone for speaking another language in your presence would be a racial matter) and that would open up your place of work for a hefty law suit which they would deserve for having someone like you in charge. If there are complaints from customers about their behavior, you have discussed this with them, and their behavior continues then you can consider taking action. To be honest tho, it sounds like you are the one with the problem.
As for their "crappy" Spanish music, just because it's sung in a different language does not make it crappy. Plenty of people love to go to the Opera and that I believe is sung in Italian.
I strongly suggest you seek some sort of therapy for your prejudice misconceptions and your lack of acknowledgment of them.
One more thing, before you get upset about someone not using your language, maybe you ought to master it yourself.

hmmm you know you do sound racist. And did you know the number one most spoken language in the States is Latin, and when you look at the history on America, its relied on settlers from all over the world.
You know knowledge is power, why dont you take advantage of your surrounding and learn the language. Then I am sure you would not be so offended.
If they can speak English and ignore to do so is because you might have encouraged that by being angry with them.
I am telling you learn their language and get them!

HAVE u been to MIAMI, FL ? I suggest u don't go there, unless u speak SPANISH. 79 % of the population there are CUBANS & 60% of them don't know any English. I almost got beat up in a Resturant cauze i didn't know how to order in Spanish. I almost got lost because the Bus-driver/Taxi driver or anyone on the street could help me with direction in english. I thought i am in Cuba & not America. That was Regan mistake when he imported 2 milion Cubans, in 1 year & CUBANS are GRANTED ASSYLEM as soon as they arrive.

There are many courses offered at the community college so you can learn Spanish. The education will enrich your life, and you can visit many latin american countries more conviently.
If the issue is creating a work enviroment that serves the majority, then you should assimilate. it would be rude to inconvience the majority for a minority. That is the logic and argument you are making.
Wanting someone to conform to you is rude, especially if they do their job. is rude. The complaints i take it are
from people who feel the same way.
move to california....there are no spanish speaking people hear.

If this country is split by 2 languages, then the people are separated from each other. One country, one language, and that language must be the same of our founding fathers. English must be learned, and used in all public areas.

a) get laid more often
b) have yourself a good, tall drink
or
c) do whatever else may calm you down from this state of aggressive xenophobia that seems to be driving you mad right now
Chill out, for your own good :-)
