Macaws are omnivores,they eat almost anything from meat , insects to vegetable nuts and plant matter.
Pellets are a good start , if not used to pellets, slowly introduce them to it.
A good thing to do is to purchase a book on macaws, to give you all the information you need.
Macaws love to play withtheir food aswell,you will need good strong toys for your macaw
chunky ropes and wood toys
jingle balls to chase etc.have chunky logs and/or thick perches for your macaw to chew on and never leave him unattended.

They eat a large variety of things in the wild. It's estimated that their "grocery list" is upwards to 300 different types of food matter.
Nuts, berries, greens, vegetables, legumes, insects, and also clay from cliffs. This acts as an antidote for any poisonous food they might have eaten.
They also eat grains, and grasses.
In captivity, feed them lots of vegetables: (dark green and orange veggies are best), beans, and make sure they receive a powdered vitamin supplement as well as a powdered calcium supplement.
Take it real easy on the seeds: they are high in fat and have little or no nutritional value.
