Go ahead and follow your instincts. You will never know whether you have made the right choice until you start moving. If it turns out to be the wrong choice, so what? Its not the end of the world, is it?
If you continue to be so indecisive, you will remain this way till it may be too late (all your top choices may be hooked with someone else already!).
There will never be a perfect one for you to start. You are definitely young enough for many tries! Nothing should be cast in concrete in your first try at dating.

I know how you feel. I used to have such a hard time asking guys out. Then after a lot of thought I realized the worst thing they could say was no. It wouldn't be the end of my world. If they rejected me, it was their loss. So basically, the best thing to do is realize that it's okay if they say no. It won't cause meteors to come crashing into the Earth. It may feel humiliating, but it's better than being tormented by feelings and needs that you can't express. Good luck!

Being interested in a person and liking them is one story but its another story if you go beyond that. maybe you are afraid of commitment and who likes rejection? noone does! below are some things which might be of help:
To love at all is to be venerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin or your selfishness. But in that casket--safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable...The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers...of love is Hell.
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves, Harcourt, Brace & World, Inc., 1960, p.169.
Ohhh geee..... I might be getting deeper to your answer.....but
If I may rephrase Pascal's quote.....If a woman loves a man for his built and handsomeness, does she love him? No; for the small-pox, which destroys his physical appearance without killing her, causes her love to cease. And if any one loves you for your judgment or your memory, does he really love you? No; for you can lose these qualities without ceasing to be. When someone loves you- I mean truly loves you- appearance will matter the least its your character and heart that counts. A truly remarkable woman would rather choose a heart of gold than running after you for looks and wealth- yunesa@yahoo.com

i think you're overprotecting yourself you dont wanna get hurt or disappointed. it's simply fear of taking the risk. in this game of dating you have to face risks. especially for guys like you, risk of being rejected. but you must really face. at least if you fail, you can say to yourself at least you tried and knew how it feels, rather than saying that you havent tried at all. what if in trying you'll succeed, right? just go. it's not a matter of life and death

whew. that must be really stressful mate. i guess you need to trust your instincts on this one. and if it turns out to be a mistake, let it be a learning experience for you. that'll make you smart and tough. goodluck.
