The policeman is going to appeal against his conviction even thouh he has not lost his job and has walked free from court. I think it is absolutely appalling.

The police don't seem to realise that they are not the law, they just enforce the law. that means they are not above the law they have to abide by the laws like everyone else yet whenever they break the law themselves they always get let off. what example does that set to the general public. this officer was even found guilty yet gets no punishment ??? If it was Joe bloggs then he would have lost his licence there and then and had a big fine, points on his licence (when he got it back) made to do a re-test.
Probably have to go on a course to learn about the dangers of speeding. But he got nothing. The police then wonder why the public turn against them and don't want to help them.

No it's not right; however, life isnt' fair. There many be some circumstance that the public does not know about before people should go jumping to conclusions.

In response to Emma-Lou's comment:

(No,its not right, i saw 2 policeman driving along in a marked police car the other day and they were not wearing seat belts. One rule for them and another for us)

An officer is exempt from wearing a safety belt for officer safety reasons. Officers have to continuely get in and out of the car, and often times officers that wear their seat belt, get the belt caught on their gun holster, baton, or radio, which can potentially cost an officer his life given the severity of a particular situation. Know the facts before you make comments like that.

As for the comment that stated officers should be punished more than civilians because they "know better" is ridiculous. I wont even go into why that comment is stupid.

Sorry, I don't know the full story.

If he was off duty then of course he should not get away with it.

If he was on duty and responding to an emergency call then PERHAPS. However, 159 mph is totally excessive in my view and downright bloody dangerous unless it was at Brands Hatch.

I really don't see how that speed can be justified.

the mans excuse to get familiar with the vehicle is bullshit and he should have been banned and fined heavily and the back up guy " he cant practise on an old airfield" he is an advance driver isn't he so why does he want to practise, I believe it should be reviewed just to find out how a police officer can walk away with not even points added to his licence after all 160 mph is belting on a public motorway

I'm glad he didn't get any penalty, it leaves the door open for others such as myself to get off scot-free after winding out a fast car..!

In appropriate conditions, I have driven ...fast. If the driver is capable, and the car is, what's the problem? Our 70 mph limit was posted about forty-five years ago, cars have come a long way since then. On the motorways these days, cops never pull anyone for speeding unless they are doing over 95. At 70 on the motorway, you'll be one of the slowest things out there.

No, it isn't fair. They seem to get by with this even though they will stop others for speeding and give them a ticket. How is that for democracy in "The Land of The Free?"

Rage Against The Machine - **** tha Police

enjoy this song, and remember.. if you get pulled over, you were only testing..

Maybe the police should have a do anything they feel like day, to get it out of their systems

Hell no,when I was 19 I got popped doing 110. I was slowing down. I pulled over as soon as I saw the cherrys.I thought that cop was going to shoot me. They suspended my liscense with out telling me. I had to take defensive driving twice because they conveniently lost the paperwork from the first one. Not to mention the fines I had to pay.
