An LCD tv has a slower refresh rate on the colors and usally when watching high action show's or movies you'll notice a ghosting effects accross the tv. While Plasma is considered to be the best tv's today. they have a extremely high refresh rate because the gases are better than a lights source. Plasma's have up to 60,000 hours of life so if you get a plasma it will last you anywhere between 12-25 years depending on your tv watching habits.

all things being equal, the lcd picture quality is better. but is usually more expensive. if you're not going to be hanging it on the wall, check out the DLP tvs by samsung, different technology, but a SWEET HD picture. =)
