Probably because the blades get dull quickly. I've used razors over and over several times and they've still worked fine. Maybe it depends on the brand.

The best-value razor I've ever used is a Gillette Mach3. They're expensive but they last a long time. I agree with you; the old-fashioned cutthroat razors that you sharpened with a leather strop were easy on your pocket; they lasted more than a lifetime and it didn't cost anything to sharpen them. Good news is, soon we'll have diamond-coated razors that never need sharpening and last forever. Don't believe conspiracy theories about Gillette suppressing this technology. Capitalism doesn't work like that. When digital cameras came in, Kodak, Fuji and Pentax immediately got into it. Similarly with ICs and traditional transistor TV manufacturers back in the '60s and '70s.

well you should first buy a top quality brand. then after you cut your hair always add a little bit of metal oil {which should be in the pack the razor came from} on the razor. then keep fry and you can use it for yrs. i had mine for 5 yrs by doing this process. and make sure it is clean when you put it back in the box after use.

inferior metal wears down. Job security is priority one. If razors lasted forever then the razor business wouldn't.

Same reason why cancer, AIDS, MS, etc. will never be cured..there's no money in curing but there's a fortune (billions) made in treating the symptoms.

Just use a straight razor. The kind you see at old school barbershops. Those will last forever. Just don't shave with a hangover...

to extend the use of your razor keep it in a small glass with enough mineral oil to cover the blades..this keeps it from oxidizing which is what dulls the blades fast.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.
