The problem with your analogy is that we pay the police to protect us through our tax dollars. Other countries do not pay us to rescue them when they are in trouble.

I wonder the same thing, let's try not helping out every third world toy country that has it's hand out and see how they do on their own.

How can we consider ourselves so generous and capable when we are failures in helping the people of New Orleans? How can we reform and rebuild Iraq if we can not do so in Mississippi? How can we tell others how to live when we have higher murder rates per capita than any European Country?
When is America going to get off it's high perch and stop looking down at others in the world? Why do we need to feel better than anyone else? Why do we give Israel the biggest chunk of aid when Counties in South America are living in poverty?

USA is always intervening in other states because it want world peace and oftentimes misinterpreted as invasion. Sometimes there are also people that hate USA but always asks for aid when in time of trouble.

It is no different that US citizens complaining about the police, but then when they get in trouble, and need help, the first call they make is to 911.
