Mexico Visitor Information


IMPORTANT: Valid government-issued photo ID is required. ID must match name on the ticket or e-ticket.

Proof of Citizenship:
Proof of citizenship and/or official documentation is required to enter Mexico.

All U.S. citizens, including infants and children, entering Mexico, are required to present a VALID passport, a certified birth certificate* in good condition (hospital birth certificate is not acceptable), certificate of naturalization*, a voter's registration card*, or notarized affidavit of citizenship*.
* Passengers (18 years of age and older) are required to present a VALID government-issued photo I.D., along with the birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, voter's registration card, or notarized affidavit of citizenship.
A marriage certificate must be presented if a women uses a birth certificate as proof of citizenship, unless the government-issued photo I.D., the name on the reservation and the birth certificate match.
It is REQUIRED that children under 18 years of age traveling without both parents or legal guardians, carry a notarized letter of authorization to travel to Mexico, signed by each parent or guardian. A notarized birth certificate showing only one parent, a parent's death certificate, or a court order of child custody MAY also be permissible. Minors must be met by an adult.
Non-U.S. citizens must contact both the Mexican Consulate AND U.S. Immigrations regarding required documents.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a new passport initiative that will require U.S. citizens and foreign nationals to present a passport when traveling to or from the U.S. This plan will be rolled out in phases as follows:
December 31, 2006 — Passports will be required for all air and sea travel from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. This includes children of any age. Children will not be allowed to travel under their parents passport. Travel to the above areas prior to Dec. 31, 2006 and return to U.S. in 2007 also requires a passport.

December 31, 2007 — Passports will be required for ALL land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

Starting January 1, 2007 EVERYONE NEEDS A PASSPORT to travel to Mexico, Actually anywhere internationally.

Also Rumor has it that US citizens will need a passport By January 1, 2008 for travel inside the US, as well.

No, you do not need one. I am also going on a cruise next month to Mexico and I called the cruise line and they advised that you should take it if you have it. If not, it is not a requirement. Also, they said a passport is recommended in case the cruise passenger gets sick, then the cruise can fly them home in that case.
