My definition of "religion" is a set of rituals which must be observed and certain principals which must be adhered to. Religion can't save any one as only the shed blood of Christ does. Thankfully Jesus didn't come to establish a religion but rather to establish a relationship between God and man and show the way to eternal life without religion which always involves works of one type or another.

Hello dear, I'm an Indian.
RELIGION - the " modus operandii " for human being along with all the ' naturals ' gifted by almighty GOD or say the NATURE ,.irrespective of the cast & creed. Although, many rituals joined later on due to geographical placements but by n' large every religion tells to live in - harmony with each other without disturbing others.

Religion is identity of a belief system. Since culture (trained behaviour) influence over the religion it has been passing over to generation to generation. There may large number of religions they may come and go but rthe rteligion which emphasise love, afection, brotherhood etc will stay for long run of the world, those against love and terrorism could not survive, because man born for live not for dead (it will come naturally). Hinduism, Budhism, Judaism, Parcism, Juism, sorry I am going depth

I think you are right. Religion is a set of rules that help a person find direction. Im trying to follow the buddhist way of life which has been defined as the science of the mind.

From what I have read, the word "Religion" comes from "Re" = "to do again" and "Lesen" = German for "to read" (etym. goes back further prob...but this is enough for me for now...) so to me it is saying "to read again".
Re-read what? The scriptures/ word of God
Why? to keep God's laws in your mind (by re-reading them and re-hearing them) and to practice living them.
The commandments are given to us from a loving Heavenly Father who has already figured out what will make a person eternally happy and full of joy. When He commands us to do something (Religion) it is for our own benefit.
He has given us free agency but there are consequences to our actions and He wants us to know how to make our choices wisely...so we will have joy.
As far as "Organized Religion" - it is necessary...
Why was Jesus Christ baptized? Not because He had sin (He didn't--- He was perfect), but it was to set an EXAMPLE for us of what to do. He went to the proper Priesthood authority (not just to any old Church) and He was baptized by John the Baptist (who held the true Priesthood).
So what Jesus Christ showed us to do = Find the correct Church (which has the proper Priesthood authority) AND get baptized into the Church = (Organized Religion).

A belief in god: in the existence of an entity which either:
- created the world as it now is and/or
- provides guidance to its development by some sort of interaction with it.

religion is something insane lonely misfits and compulsive liars do to pass the time and to try to fit in someplace. a huge majority of people that become involved in religion are at their wits end and are looking for a cure that they cant find for whatever ails them. they have run into the proverbial brick wall. 95% are in this state of mind and the other 5% are there to take advantage of the 95%. they want some white magic. they want rest from the madness that engulfs us all. they want someone to tell them it is ok that they have done all the bad things that they have done. they want someone to tell them things will be ok. they want someone to care about them and the good thing is that the people there will welcome you with open arms because they are all sinners, some being that to the worst degree and they understand your pain. thats is ok by me but when they try to put their stamp on everything that moves on the planet and off and refuse to listen to anything that is not in their book it becomes a bit much. they seem to lose common sense and will not accept fact from fiction. they get lost in that fairy tale book and stick their heads in the sand never to come out or focus on reality again. i get real tired of hearing about it. anything that is said they find a way to stick the word god into it. any question they try to stick god in it. all answers they want to stick god into it. this is what happens when you have a bunch of brainwashed sinners around. thet grate on my nevers. it is true that the bible has some historical facts in it but for the most part it is just to full of holes to hold up. have signs up at your place of worship, have your tv time even though most on tv are the worst of crooks, have your raido time and newspaper time but you do not have to stick it in my face all day long at every turn. give me a damn break. a large number of people are scared to say how they really feel about religion but are afraid of what the freaks will do to them. it is not safe in many places to say you do not believe. thats how i define religion. i guess i could sum it up by saying religion to me is a bunch of organized nut jobs throwing their weight around in to many places at to many times.
