Racism is inherent in mankind. If we do not have somebody else to make fun of, ridicule or put beneath us in society we are not happy. What is needed to over come the problem is, like others have said is education. Everybody must learn that the way society works is not through intimidation or stereotype or demanding that I should have this because of the color of my skin or where I was born. If we can give everybody in this country a quality education from K-12 and then give them the opportunity to get a free 4 year degree from an accredited University; then and only then will things slowly begin to change............Ignorance breeds ignorance and ignorance breeds contempt, complaisance, and anger.

How the people act really. When the majority of what a person sees in a certain race, are those who behave very badly, this is what causes racism. It causes problems outside of race as well, as we see here that many non-religious tend to think all religious people act badly because some have. If we could get people to just stop being buttheads.... that would help.

I think the root cause is economic. The constant battle between the haves and have-nots. MLK started to address this issue in some of his speeches shortly before he was assassinated. It really is not so much race (although racism does exist), as it is class.
Eventually, we'll all be the same color. Then we'll find something else to hate each other for.

Ignorance, stereotypes, believing that all ____ people are ____.
They need to be taught about the differences in people and that stereotypes may be partially true but should not be a basis of judging everyone. Even if they are true what does it matter? Does it matter if Asians are smart, Arabs are terrorists, Blacks are on welfare, and Mexicans don't speak English and have 10 kids? Does it matter if gay guys wear pink? Does it matter if rednecks have a hound dog, pickup truck, and shot gun? They are still PEOPLE.
That is what also needs to be taught - that no matter what is "wrong" with someone else - they are still human and should still be loved for being human because no one is perfect we are not made to be perfect and before judging others we need to look at ourselves.

Inadequate familial structures. Generally, the lack of fathers in families, which create inadequate role models for youngsters, producing almost stereotypical personality traits in our upcoming generations.
It would be easy to blame racism on one "race" or another, but the fact remains that some blacks, hispanics, asians, and others all are just as guilty of some form of racism as whites. Additionally, not all people have racist tendencies, but are still lumped in with one group or "race."

Unwillingness to accept cultural differences. I grew up in multiracial neighborhood. I never acted black like kids do these days, my black friends never had to put on their white faces for me, and spanish and oriental friends need not stray from their cultures either. And we all respected each other and their cultures, very good friends. I think it's a lack of understanding that cultural differances makes a better place to live. Imagine what a dull world it would be if everyone were the same. UGHH.

power. everyone is trying to determine which is the majority to gain power,. hatred, due to ignorance, and wisdom. what one doesn't understand causes one to get vengeful when they don't want to take the time out to learn why so many various kinds of beautiful people. which a melting pot is what is needed. say everyone was the same where is the variety? lack of Love is the main reason i just had to voice my opinion. if everyone were to look deep into their own family history they would find that they have a bit of everything in their family also. so that would mean they hate themselves
