i have always beleived that it doesnt matter what religion you are or even if your not of any particular religion, as long as you are living a life of caring and being responsible is all that matters. ive known too many religious people going to church every sunday only to find they are the worst for talking about people behind their backs.

i agree you dont have to go to church or follow a religion to be a kind person with good morals, i dont need a church to pray, i can pray at home, doesnt mean i dont beleive in god. i know when my judgement day comes that i have lived my life the best i could have and it will left in gods hands in the end.

People believe in religion is a way to control people. There has always been war over it wich is wrong. People should be able to decide what they believe is real and live there life. One reason is that only the person with that belief be held responsible in the end. Look how the pope had so much control over the kings and churches. Martin Luther made a new religion after he got upset that the munks were telling people (poor people at that) that if they paid money they would get a piece of paper that would guarante they went to heaven. What's that all about. Fighting over religion is stupid

John Lennon had it right with Imagine

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

So what do you think

Fellowship. getting together with people who are like a second family.
I will take your question to relate to organized church structures. I think humility means willing to consider the opinions of others who have gone before. A math major in college does not need to recreate 2+2=4. Also if you start with the principle that Gods real work is done with equal parts love and truth and sin as the acts of selfishness, pride and greed. Then you see that false religion crucified Christ, killed the martyrs and the prophets of the Old Testament and was on both sides of the crusades. True religion opened hospitals, orphanages (to take children of the streets), freed slaves and fought tyranny (research Augustine's Just war concept).

Religions give humans a sense of belonging. It helps them think that they are not alone in the cruel world that they live in. In the end they only give hope for a better world that will never come. They will believe in 'God' so fierecly they are willing to kill, maim, and torture when in the end it won't help them or improve their lives one bit. So I agree with you. The only things religions have done is kill innocents in wars and divide the humans into many when they should be united. Unity will create a better world but that is an impossibility....

The Qur'an teaches us that the human race is given an innate spirituality are inherent in human existence,
but this spirituality can betray us if it is not led in the right direction. To depend on a merely human
feeling of the guiding Spirit is dangerous. Many groups, even cults, claim to be guided by the spirit or
by God or by revelation, yet these groups hold divergent, even contradictory, beliefs. We find people
behaving in contradictory ways who claim nonetheless that each is doing the will of God. "I feel," they
say, "that the spirit guides and directs me."

A credible source of revelation is imperative. Throughout history Allah has selected particular
individuals to convey His message, to receive His revelation and to exemplify it for mankind

God provides us with the purpose of our existence and if we seek to do good it is the same as seeking to do the will of God. Your belief in God only has value in so far as you live your life according to His purpose for you.

How then do we know what is the will of God? That is where religion comes in. GOD has revealed His will through prophets. To find out what this is you need to study the revelation.

The Atheist position is indeed hopeless. The believer has hope. If there is a God and there is life after death then the believer wins. If there is no God or no life after death the believer loses nothing. On the other hand, the Atheist loses badly if he wakes up to discover himself in the afterlife. In sum, if there is no afterlife both the believer and the Atheist are safe. But if there is an afterlife then the Atheist loses. The only one who can possibly lose is the Atheist.

On the other hand, it is the Atheist who is wasting his life. His life has no purpose but temporary enjoyment. But such enjoyment is always tempered by nagging doubts about whether or not life is heading in the right direction. It is the believer who lives in quiet confidence that God's promise is true.

Man cannot attain to his true humanity and acquire peace of mind unless he realises this aim for which he was created. But how can he do this! God, being merciful and Just, has helped him in many ways. He granted him an originally good nature that is inclined to know and serve its true Lord. He granted him a mind that possesses a moral sense and the ability to reason. He made the whole universe a natural book full of signs that lead a thinking person to God. But to make things more specific, to give him more detailed knowledge of his Lord, and to show him in a more detailed manner how to serve Him, God has been sending down verbal messages through His prophets chosen from among men, ever since the creation of man.

You may be saying that based on your understandings of what a religion is which are drawn from experiences of Christianity and other religions but don't necessarily apply to Islam. So here are a couple of points which may help to correct such misunderstandings; There is no church hierarchy in Islam

I think people need story, need myth, need spiritual identity and that this is a basic draw for the human psyche - to find meaning and to touch the creative forces of the universe. This does not have to be in organized religion and it does not have to happen overtly at all but it does happen anyway - in many ways in modern societies - in money, commercialism, idolatry of ditsy (and some cool) celebrities, worship of "science" and machines, "wealth" war, and superficial trinkets of philosophy as if this were the only reality.
Religion is ancient, seeking a connection with the divine, often honoring this spark inside of ourselves, these are ancient. Many religions have more to do with basic cultural identity, tradition, the honoring of ancestors and that which has been passed down, warped though it may have become.
If that is your opinion why on Earth do you refer to the Creator as a man? Is that not internalizing organized religion? As if we know can even fathom the mystery of the creatrix of the universe. Im telling you, it aint some big guy! Its just as much a great mother but more than that both and beyond and alive inside of all of us
How we image God/Goddess and the divine has everything to do with how we act here on Earth and how we treat the planet and each other. no matter how we look at it and considering there are about as many perspectives as there are individuals we going to have stories and ways of connecting with Life and dealing with/accepting (or not) the reality of death. we can organize them into religions or not, be conscious of them or not, choose to celebrate cooperation and deep respect for nature and even ecstasy or not, we can tell stories about fear and hell and the big judge, sell all our power to the TV manufacturing our cosmology or not, but the stories and images and instinct to commune with forces larger, more all inclusive than us are an inherent part of human nature
Thats what I think

Because they help us know God better and worship Him according to His rules, not ours.
If you truly believe in God as you say, then I suggest joining a religion, and yes, most religions are peaceful, not belligerent, despite the fact that every religion has its radicals and bad apples.
If we could truly know and love God without religion, then we wouldn't really be human, since we are weak and simple creatures that need to simplify and organize all our practices and beliefs, which is where religion has come in for all of our history.
Many scholars have rightly concluded that religion, despite its sometimes murder-inspiring nature, has been the single non-material force to help us maintain our survival on this planet.
I don't know you, but you can't be so presumptuous and short-sighted to think that you know God better than everyone else, which is what you believe if you reject religion.
I do respect your belief in Him, but we all need direction in how best to live our lives for Him.

The first war began in Heaven itself with the beginning of sin. Ever since Satan (once Lucifer) has been taking out his hatred for God on humans-God's special creation. The multiplicity of religions today are a result of his twisting the true faith, hope, and love from God. I believe in faith, not religion, a loving relationship with my heavenly Father (or whatever you wish to call Him) that causes me to love all other humans unselfishly and pray that this living hell will end soon and that we can live in peace with God on the new earth.

It is said that in each one of is is a God-shaped hole which desires to be filled by the God who created it. All of us are "religious" to some extent. We all know there must be God, but do we just go on making him up in our minds, and creating Him however we wish? We couldn't say we had a relationship with any other person if we knew nothing about them, never cared to learn anything about them, and couldn't even explain what they were like, and all we had to say about them was what we "imagined" them to be like, and how we "imagine" they would want us to relate to them.
Religion is just an ordered way of learning to know God. Many religions are just man-made attempts at organizing their own imaginations about God, but God pretty much cleared everything up when He came as Jesus Christ. Now, if you want to have a relationship with God, you need to know Jesus. You can begin to know Jesus by reading the Bible, and soon you will see that God wants you in fellowship with others of like spririt. He calls it church, you can call it religion, but it is specific religion, and it fills the hole.
As far as religions destroying the world, well, religions are full of people who believe all kinds of godless things, and they destroy the world. Of course, there has been even more destruction done by atheistic communists and pirates, and marauders, and murderers and molesters and rapists.....Well, you get the picture. Without right religion (actual connection with God), there is no hope for any of us.

people all over hurt from something and need something or someone to believe in. they all believe in some higher source regardless where it is from. usually from there heritage or upbringing or their surroundings of what they have heard. anything to make life better for them or us just that when you know the truth and the light it is much easier to just believe in God and not base on a religion or a ritual. my thing is this as long as we are all worshiping the same God how you do it is up to you whatever makes one happy.
