someone's cat is having kitten's in our yard, the mother isn't being taken care of by the owners, so I felt bad for her and started feeding her, I love the cat and her kitten's but I can't keep all of them, I could take them to a shelter but she will just have more, do you think I should take her to get her spayed even, though she's not my cat, I just want to do the best thing.

Yes there are many programs that will Spay a Feral (just means born without owner or has no owner not necessarily Wild) You will Be doing Her a Huge Favor. Having kittens constantly is not good for Her and She will have a Longer, Happier and Healthier Life. Its obvious if she does have a owner they do not care about Her as much as You do and She must Feel Safer and Happier in your yard than anywhere else since She keeps having them there. I would also get Her Micro-Chipped so if Someone decides to try to Claim Her after You have gone out of Your way to take proper Care of Her. Once You have any type of medical records and have Her chipped she is technically Yours.. You seem like a Wonderful Person and She must know this because She chooses You when She can Go anywhere else. So Be Proud that You are a Good Person and She has been very Lucky to have chosen You. Also the kittens can Be altered at 2 lbs. and adopted through many programs designed to Assist.

Hi Robin...first ask your neighbour if you can spay their cat or better adopt it if they don't want her. There are legal ramifications if you don't do this especially if anything medically happens to her (which is unlikely, but there's a remote possibility, which then you don't want to be held responsible). Maybe your neighbours cannot afford to do this themselves and you could offer to help. If they agree to it, make certain they sign a document agreeing to this arrangement and will not sue you for any problems following surgery. Please save this document for several years too. Anyhow, if they say no it's best then to contact the humane society which will collect the cat and her babies. Your neighbours will then have to deal with the shelter who will spay the cat after the kittens are 6 -8 weeks old before re-releasing the cat to them. Although it would be great if you could adopt her yourself, you would probably would feel better about being fair and honest and hope someone else would do the same if you were in your position too. I personally believe you are better suited to adopt her since your neighbours appear to lack the judgement to care for her appropriately. But the because animals are considered property the law gives right to the owners not the people who mean well by helping. :-(

This kitty needs to be spayed. Call the local humane society and see if they will help you do that. Or maybe at least assist with a low cost spay. Then you won't have to worry about the kittens in the future.

There are 10 Million cats & dogs euthanized every year because there are not enough homes.

If you spay the Mama, perhaps you could take her in and be her new, *responsible* owner.

Best of luck!

Contact your local shelter, they may have animal-safe catch cages that you can borrow for a small fee or deposit. Take her to the shelter to be spayed then you can either release her back to the wild or leave her at the shelter to be adopted. Chances are, she's not anyone's cat but a ferrel, and once they find a kindly benefactor who leaves food and treats for them and their kittens, they will stick around. She may not get warm and friendly to you, but she will act as though this is her home. Shelters in my area welcome ferrel's being caught, spayed and released.

The humane society is the best bet. Since her owners aren't
too concerned for the health or safety of their cat, you should
take her there, they spay for a reasonable price, and the kittens
will get good homes. Just tell them she is your cat...cause isn't
she already???? And if you have an income problem, they may
have a reduced price, doesn't hurt to ask.

Yeah, take her to get spayed.... or just bring her to the shelter since the owner doesn't take care of her... we had the same problem, only we chased the cat away, and kept one of her kittens............... the kitten ate my fish last week......

Well if you love the cat and the cat is being neglected, you can take her to your local ASPCA office and I'm sure they'll know what to do with her. You can even tell them that you'd like to adopt her, but your best choice right now is to take care to the ASPCA.
