It is the work of many.

For a start, the Bible isn't a single book, but contains 66 separate books which were collected over something like 1,200 years, which were apparently written, edited and compiled by human beings under the inspiration of God.

Take the Five Books of Moses, which open the Bible and include the world-famous stories of the creation, the Garden of Eden and Noah's flood. Known in Hebrew, the language they were written in, as the Torah, these books contain the foundations of Judaism and Christianity. It turns out that the Books of Moses weren't written by Moses at all, but by four anonymous writers, each with his own particular view to promote. These writings were only brought together when an Israelite king found them useful to promote his political agenda, many centuries after the time of Moses.

The same goes for the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Mark, the first Gospel writer, started to write about Jesus in the first place – as an encouragement to the first generation of Christians, who were facing persecution. Although the Gospel writers seem to be giving us direct reportage from the life of Jesus, each of them actually had his own spin on the story. While Matthew was keen to show how Jewish Jesus was, for the Jewish wing of the early church, Luke pushed the Roman angle. He packaged the teaching and miracles of Jesus to show that even civilised Roman citizens could believe in him.

A good question that has complicated answers.

All sorts.

Scholars see at least four writers/schools for the Torah (the first five books, Genesis-Deuteronomy), with a redactor (editor) combining the several traditions into one. They had different levels of literary skill and/or intent, several were probably priests. Much has been written about who they were, although very little has been agreed upon.

Sacred texts can be seen as a people codifying a history or identity for themselves -- how they came into being and what their place in the world is. As such, the writers are a sort of historian, with much of that history being imagined. The bringing together of Torah probably occurred after Israel was conquered by the Assyrians, a time when there would be need for a strengthening of identity. I've included a link below that gives a quick overview of when the different texts were probably written.

It's also important to remember that what we have is a sort of 'greatest hits' version, just a few strands of several traditions which have been preserved. Too much, some written, more shared by speaking, has been lost.

If you want to find out more, I've listed some wikipedia entries below as a good summary of the theories. If you want to go further, use some of the references listed there and head to your nearest library (you'll have better luck at a university or college). The questions you've asked are too big for one question here. Maybe pick one part and ask again.

Well to Begin with, Few Apostles wrote - some others got it written (Most of the Apostles were illiterate) Then there was Samson who had his teachings written also John the Baptist who had his stuff written. There were many followers for John the Baptist and Samson - Jesus had only a few.

So what the Pagan Emperor Constantine and after wards Justin did was get all the teachings together and made one religion called the Bible - Which it self became a new religion, a combination of a lot of beliefs.

A few gospels were kept aside - the once which didn't abide by What Constantine wanted to say - that's why Mary's, Peters and a few others were kept aside !

Justin was a gay emperor - that's where Hatred towards women came in and was included in the Bible and Christianity.

People from a broad array of backgrounds: military leaders, a cupbearer, a Pharasee, fisherman, a king, a tax collector, a physician (there's more--just can't think of them). Some of them were well educated; others were not. Sometimes people on earth need to be scared. All of us can potentially communicate with God. That's what prayer is all about.

All sorts of people wrote the bible. Most of these people were not big scholars, they were people like you and me who wanted answers to life's biggest questions. So they wrote their ideas and beliefs down. Much of the writings are not meant to be taken literally, which most readers do. The problem we face is simply, we put too much importance in the Bible as a Holy Scripture. Infact, however, I believe every writing is holy and inspired by God, since God is who we are.

They were chosen by God to write his Book. They were of varying educational attainment. The means of communication differed also. But they were all inspired by God.

You are absolutely correct in your assumption that men wrote the Bible. Who those individuals were may remain a mystery.
