It's an eye exam. It doesn't matter if you choose glasses or contacts the price will be the same. Walmart does it for about $50 in this part of the country. Or if your lucky you have insurance that covers the exam.

It depends on where you go and who does it. I went to a doctor who had a business at Walmart in St. Petersburg which is quite some distance from my house I had returned to take care of something in regards to my degree or friends down there so I went back to my doctor I had used when I lived there. I got a very excellent deal on it when I asked so I did it but never learned sufficiently how to place contacts in my eyes so subsequently never used it as I had no one close by to return to for teaching me how to use them properly for a repeat lesson. So be sure you have a place near by in case you have problems and a certified well educated trained doctor like I did because she explained the wrong type lenses can hurt your eyes more than help them. I only use my glasses for driving because I read so much in college I have sort of fixed focus up near now I guess so contact lense use was not that important to me even though I understand they are better for your eyes. It was under a hundred dollars lenses exam and all because I was all ready in there for replacement glasses. These were just tagged on with a few other tests basically but this was long ago. The important thing is to get a good doctor with the latest equipment and this one had it all just like the one I agreed to go to locally not at a Walmart rather than drive back down again to St. Petersburg for an exam (minus the trip costs it would have been less expensive but to travel just for an exam would have been exorbitant).

In the NY area, 80-100 dollars. Check if your insurance covers it. Also, Walmart I believe has checks for around 50.
