I'll forego the "flip" answer that first came to mind, and try to answer...
You answered your own question when you said "it was how I was raised". If your parents teach that cats are objectionable, then that's how you regard them!
If you'd like to like cats more, I agree that a kitten could be a good start. When you cuddle them they respond with comforting purrs, showing you how they appreciate your attention. They are MUCH easier to housebreak, playful and not nearly as destructive as a puppy. A young kitten just might charm you into loving cats, especially as they grow.
An older, well-socialized cat could also help you like cats more. If you're watching TV, you may have a buddy to pet. It has been proven that cats can literally induce a reduction in health related problems. For example, your blood pressure will go down. Find a friend that has a cat you might enjoy. Some are funny, most are very loving.
Good Luck!

If your truly do not want to hate cats, I don't believe you do. Who can resist a kitten? What do you mean "it was how I was raised?
Find someone who has a litter of beautiful kittens and will let you have one for a few days to see if it works out. If not, they will let you bring it back. I have a feeling you will fall in love! They are so precious, cute, loving and so funny!!!!! Give it a try! I think you will change your mind! Good luck!

It's probably your personality. If you don't like cats you just don't like cats. Not much you can do about it. You could try to be around them more or find a friendly old cat who loves people and spend some time around it. Or spends some time with a cat lover

Cat's lover here to tell you how: you can litter train cat's, they don't drink from the toilet like dog's do, there not loud or messy, their funny to watch after you give them cat nip, their very loving, and very soft. You should get one to see how you really feel about them.

Brett...would it even begin to change your mind just a little if you could see how a cat can learn to do what a dog can do? Like sit or lay down on command? They even can walk on a leash and better which any dog owner probably wishes... use a human toilet. How about doing agility? They can do all these and so much more than many people realize.

Well firstly you can't "make" yourself like something that you hate. If you don't like them, you just don't like them. >.> If you want to "like" one then play with a pretty kitten, they're very playful when they are young, so that might be a good start. But if it doesn't work out don't push yourself to like cats. Maybe you weren't meant to like them. ^.^
