She is off palmerian bread. I have tried to switch the food but doesn't work. She likes potetoes, paneer, eggs but gets bored very quickly. I have tried some combinations of foods but after one or two days, she stops eating. We used to give her pedigree once in a day as advised by the doctor. But sometimes she does not eat whole day except pedigree. She is very slim as compared to other dogs. Please advise what should we do about her feed.

My puppy was the same way. Refused Eukanuba. The vet said he was underweight, so I decided to try anything to get him up to speed. One day I spent about 5 minutes making him a meal. Cooked a quick bit of chicken, added some slices of banana and apple, a few veggies, an egg...and he gobbled it up! He loves yogurt, and I mixed his Eukanuba in with it. WOULDN'T TOUCH IT. It's like he's saying, "Hey! Mom! Stop feeding me processed crap!"

I'm switching to Life's Abundance which is a natural pet food (that doesn't contain carcinogens like BHT that most commercial pet foods contain.) Toby would rather eat dirt (literally) than Eukanuba. Try giving your dog a bit of real meat and see what she thinks about that.

Good luck!

First of all, have your vet give the dog a thorough exam, including a chem screen blood test. During that office visit have the dr. express the dogs anal glands. If all test come back within normal range, the anal glands are empty, than I would suggest you take away all table food and feed strictly dog food. Use a good dry kibble, and if the dog likes canned Pedigree, heat it up in a microwave for about 35 seconds to make it smell! Add it to the dry. Leave down for dog to eat. If not eatenwithin 15 minutes, pick up dish, discard food, give no treats, and start over at the next meal.

Stop switching food!! You're feeding her habit of finicky eating! A dog will eat when it's hungry enough. If you're worried, feed her a food that is higher in fat content, it's usually more appealing taste-wise to the dog.

I too, would give my dog some occasional table scraps. This led to him not eating until late at night when he was sure nothing else better was going to come along.

My suggestion would be to allow her access to her food all day. Let her develop a routine. Maybe she's just not hungry when you're trying to feed her. She's a small dog and if she's not very active, I wouldn't worry.

Do rib checks on her occasionally. It's normal to feel ribs on a dog with a small amount of pressure, but if you can feel them jutting out without pressure, I'd take her to the vet.

Well first if my vet suggested Pedigree I would find a new vet. Pedigree is a cheap, low quality, low nutrion dog food. Look at the ingredients you will see you are getting mostly grain for your dog. Lots of dogs are even allergic to the corn and wheat in the commerical dog foods. Dogs need meat. Just like we do.

If your dog is one of the small breeds and you are feeing it dry food it may be that the food is too hard for her to eat. She may need smaller bites. Many good dog foods have dry food made for the mouths of little dogs.

Secondly get her a better quality of dog food whether you are feeding her canned or dry or both. Stop getting your dog's food from Wal-Mart. Go to your local pet shop. Look for Evangers, Solid gold, Or Wellness. Three brands that use very high quality ingredients. All three have dry and canned. However I think only Solid Gold has dry food made specially for small dogs. It is called WEE BITES. Evangers dog food is even Kosher.

Don't hesistate to get your dog several cans of differnt kinds of food and give different stuff every day. If you are using high quality dog food it will not bother her stomach. The reason they warn us to feed our dogs only one food is that the dog gets uesd to bacterial count in the one food and is less likley to experience stomach upset once it is used to it. When you change food you get a different set of bacteria and a differnt bacterial count and the dog gets ill, food poisoning so to speak.

When you fix your dinner you might even try fixing some for her. My dogs love cauliflour, spinach, brocholli, letuce salad (no dresing though), peas, green beans as well as meat. Dogs really seem to have about the same taste we do.

Your dog is a Finicky Eater... the best way to break this is to put the food bowl for for 15 mins... if your dog doesn't touch it after 15 mins... it gets picked up and the dog will not eat that night... Do not feel sorry for him.. Keep doing this until he starts eating. Remember your dog does not starve him/her self to death...

Before doing this make sure you take your dog to the vet to see if theirs any medical problems... when it's clear go ahead and start this method.

This method works ALOT

mix other dog food in with the pedigree and that will make it an easier transition from one food to the next!
