I have an 11 month old cocker spaniel, housetrained and a good dog in general, but... he pees on the couch! He knows it is bad, because I can see him acting guilty and hiding after he does it! He is being punished for that, with the "rub nose on pee" technique, he even got smacked, but he doesnt stop. The doors are wide open all the time for him to go outside and relieve himself-and he does do his poops out, so whats with that? Yesterday, he even did it with me on the couch watching tv, right after I pat him!!! Ballsy little devil! I'm trying to find an explanation for his behavior, does anyone know why dogs do that???

If it is a boy, its probably because he is marking his territory.
Cover up the urine sent, then have the news paper covering that section. Then if he pees on it again, just keep moving the paper closer to the door, till he marks his territory outside.
You should probably have him neutered if not already.
If that doesn't work, maybe you should consult a vet.

He pees on the couch because he's a male cocker spaniel. Cockers pee everywhere. When they get excited, they pee. If they're irritated with you, they pee. My buddy and his wife had two of them, and their home would've smelled like a diaper if they weren't both so diligent about cleaning up after the dogs. I think they're just leaky creatures in general.

i ought to attempt now to not crate the dogs if conceivable. perhaps attempt to hit upon a fashion to keep the dogs from going onto the settee or having get excellent of entry to to the settee fullyyt until eventually she trains it now to not use it as a rest room. also why are you cleansing the settee even as her dogs is the only making the mess? She must be cleansing it, it will encourage her to coach the dogs to end. As on your roommate putting forward that's not honest if the cats get to roam freely and her dogs would not, nicely if she experienced her dogs precise the concern of crating it would not also be arising. there isn't any reason to crate cats who have not performed something incorrect, you've been to blame and experienced them to apply a clutter container now she has to take duty for her dogs and prepare it. If she will have the capacity to't preserve her dogs, then ask her to leave, and replace the settee besides.

any time an animal pees on furniture or carpet it leaves a smell that attracts. go to a pet store and buy a product made to remove the smell and use it. rubbing his nose in it does not work. the dogs instinct is to 'mark his territory' and return to the smell.

He HAS TO MARK THE COUCH AS HIS TERRITORY FOR SOME REASON...HE WANTS IT FOR HIMSELF. IT WILL NOT DO ANY GOOD TO PUNISH HIM....IT IS AN INSTINCT AND BAD HABIT....CONFINE HIM TO THE KITCHEN....I DOUBT HE WILL OUTGROW THE HABIT....BUT POSSIBLE....THERE ARE SPRAYS YOU CAN PUT ON THINGS YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE PEE ON....BUT I REALLY BELIEVE THE CONFINEMENT WILL WORK BEST. DON'T HIT HIM ANYMORE...HE REALLY CAN'T HELP IT. PRIMITIVE INSTINCT.

maybe it's the smell on the couch..or he is being a rebel..either way, you could try making it a less appitizing target.
