Becoming 1 in spirit surely does not mean marriage. It means they both had great faith unlike all the other people around them and felt the close bonds of fellowship as we do in the church today. Has nothing to do with sexuality and surely not marriage. Homosexuality back then was a sin punishable by death and there was no such thing as gay marriage.
Gay marriage is one of the many current efforts to twist the natural ways of God by degenerate liberals.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil. -Romans 1:28-30

"1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was aknit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
"2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
"3 Then Jonathan and David made a acovenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle." (1 Samuel 18:1-4)
I can see how someone who wants to read homosexual overtones into the situation could, but, no David and Jonathan were NOT married. This is just telling how great their friendship became. Had they been married, they would have been stoned to death under the Law of Moses. David did marry Jonathan's sister, Michal, though.

In 1 Samuel 18 it doesn't mention anything about David and Jonathan being married. The Bible does talk about there deep friendship and love for one another. But nothing about being married.

1 By the time David had finished reporting to Saul, Jonathan was deeply impressed with David—an immediate bond was forged between them. He became totally committed to David. From that point on he would be David's number-one advocate and friend.
2 Saul received David into his own household that day, no more to return to the home of his father.
3-4 Jonathan, out of his deep love for David, made a covenant with him. He formalized it with solemn gifts: his own royal robe and weapons—armor, sword, bow, and belt. (TM)
I think it's pretty clear if you read a contemporary English version.

As a gay man, I have to say NO.
Jonathan and David did LOVE each other GREATLY. What is important is that Jonathan gave up what was rightfully his so that David could do the will of their God and take command of the Kingdom. This is the kind of love Jonathan had was simply pure of heart and that's all we "need to know." They were both very lucky to have had each other to lean on.

The bible is very clear. But when you try to read a spiritual book with a carnal mind you will always come up with follishness like that. Of course they were not married. They were good friends that made a covenant with each other.
Wish there was more people like that today.

Party Animal,
The commentaries that I referre to seem to indicate a extremely close bond of friendship. Beyond that, your imagination can believe what it wants!
In in some ways I hope that the were gay on each other. It would make all the fundies red faced. I only hope that I have a camera if that was true and they found out. I'd want to capture the look on their Pharisaical faces.
I really hope it was true.

by no means doe this say that, the english translation is thought to thought, the hebrew of this is as many here have said, their souls became "one" and in friendship, the hebrew does not connotate any sexual refrence as it does with other places that state "and they became one" as a woman and man would, plus historicaly this type of relationship would not be accepted as it is today, David and Jonothan woul dhave been killed for this. But as far as the actual Hebrew this means just being close as friends are
