Oh my gosh! I've never heard of anyone else having that happen! Actually, for me, the falling, gasp, and jolt accompany a couple different dreams, one of which is really strange.
1. I'm lying in the middle of a road, a car is coming, and I can't move. Right before the car hits me, I wake up.
2. I'm going down a short flight of stairs and I trip.
3. (This is the weird one) I'm standing on a skateboard, holding on to the edge of a picnic table. The skateboard rolls out from under me, and I wake up before hitting the ground.

Yes it has, and I have thought about this before and I came up with this answer. I was taking care of a baby and when I went to lay him in his crib after he had fallen asleep. As I lowered him into his crib he kind of jolted and through his little arms out to the side but stay sleeping. So I am thinking maybe that is why we continue to experience the sudden fear of falling when dozing off. Makes sense to me, how about you?

It usually happens when you are really overtired..so try to get enough rest and get to bed early or try to sleep at the same time each night so you get into a natural rhythm and pattern of sleep. That my help...the brain often misinterprets the body's sudden relaxation while falling asleep as falling and thus the natural reaction is to "catch yourself" so to speak. It probably happens when you fall asleep really fast because you are so tired so see if more rest helps curb that.

perhaps. i am going to cite some lyrics from Joe Budden's music In My Sleep: "I went to make certain a guy walkin on water (and) requested if he'd ever get issues lower back so as (and) i have been there 2 years, over 1 / 4 yet everytime I open my eyes, that's like torture (torture) He suggested "please, I gave you an finished 'nother international so that you'll be able to bypass do with as you please in basic terms so that you appeased, mixed with some indicators about actual existence even as you're making have self assurance" i imagine the point of this area of the music earrings actual. perhaps that's yet another length or something, yet i recognize there are quite some certain key places in my dream, and likewise in my targets, i'll keep in concepts previous targets that i did not keep in concepts in actual existence. i have also heard of human beings sharing a similar dream.

this happens to almost everyone, it happens in the moment that you are drifting into r.e.m. stage of sleep. just as you are almost there, your concious mind jumps in and startles ya...it is a little unnerving, but very normal...kinda trippy, isn't it? Nothing you can do except maybe some tylenol pm will keep you from this...it doesn't happen every night.
